How Solar Systems Work

Solar energy is captured by photovoltaic (PV) panels, producing direct current (DC). This DC power is converted by a PV or hybrid inverter into alternating current (AC) for household electrical appliances. Surplus AC power can be used by appliances or sold to the grid.

The paradox of self-consumption without an energy storage battery is that electricity production via PV panels is highest when energy consumption is lowest. PV panels produce energy between sunrise and sunset when user consumption is minimal. As a result, only a small amount of the produced energy is consumed.

    The installed capacity depends on the home's size, electrical equipment, and daily consumption habits to determine energy needs (in kWh).

  2. What consumption mode do you prefer?

    Options include total sale of energy produced, total or partial self-consumption, or operation in backup mode.

  3. In which region will the PV panels be installed?

    Electrical output of PV panels can vary based on location and sunlight.

The ideal power rating of the PV installation (in kilowatt-peak) can be determined based on this information and available roof surface. Generally, 3, 6, or 9 kWp is recommended for residential use.

A house with a 100 m² roof, electric heating, partial self-consumption with surplus resale, Class D building, and 400 Wp PV panels, located in the Rhône department, would have its installed capacity determined by the PV installer. On average, a home with a 3 kWp PV installation has a monthly energy bill 20-30% lower than a home without photovoltaic panels.

Hybrid xStorage features a built-in backup trip output with a transfer time of less than 20ms to power specific appliances during power outages. These devices are powered by photovoltaic production and available battery capacity. Loads not connected to the backup trip output will not be powered. Up to 80% of AC rated power can be supported, depending on the model.
