Getting Started
Connecting to an AC power source
Connect the AC power cord to a wall outlet.

The clock display switches to the current time of the selected time zone in about 4 seconds.
Note: A clock error may occur during shipment or first use. Refer to “Setting the clock manually” if necessary.
About Automatic DST/summer time adjustment
This unit automatically adjusts for daylight saving time (summer time). “DST” appears on the display at the beginning of DST and disappears at the end.
- DST begins at 2:00 AM on the second Sunday of March.
- Standard time begins at 2:00 AM on the first Sunday of November.
Notes: DST implementation may vary by country/region. If this interferes with desired adjustment, cancel Automatic DST and set the clock manually. Customers in regions without DST should cancel the Automatic DST setting before use. When Hawaii Standard Time is set, Automatic DST is off by default.
To cancel Automatic DST/summer time adjustment
Press and hold DST for more than 3 seconds while the clock is displayed. “Aut OFF” appears, and the adjustment is canceled.
To reactivate Automatic DST/summer time adjustment
Press and hold DST for more than 3 seconds. “Aut On” appears, and the adjustment is reactivated.

If no operation is performed while the alarm is sounding, it stops after about 60 minutes. The alarm function works normally on the first and last day of DST. If the alarm is set for a skipped time during DST, it is skipped. If set for an overlapping time at the end of DST, it sounds twice.
Notes on the alarm in the event of a power interruption
If the set alarm time occurs during a power interruption, or if a power interruption occurs while the alarm is sounding:
- If power returns within 60 minutes of the alarm set time, the alarm will sound.
- If the power interruption occurred during snooze, snooze will continue.
- If the snooze time had passed when the power interruption occurred, the alarm will sound after power returns.
If “ ” does not light up in this status, ALARM RESET/OFF, SNOOZE/BRIGHTNESS, and alarm mode functions are available. Snooze time is fixed to 10 minutes if SNOOZE/BRIGHTNESS is pressed.
Setting the sleep timer
You can fall asleep to the radio using the sleep timer, which turns off the radio automatically after a preset duration.

The radio plays for the set duration and then shuts off.
To deactivate the sleep timer, press SLEEP repeatedly until “OFF” is displayed.
To turn off the radio before the preset time, press ALARM RESET/OFF.
To use both the sleep timer and alarm

Press SNOOZE/BRIGHTNESS. Each press cycles through the brightness levels: Bright → Dim → Normal → Bright.
Note: Display brightness cannot be changed when the alarm is sounding or snooze is active.
General information
About the battery as a backup power source
This unit contains a CR2032 battery as a backup power source to keep the clock operating during a power interruption.
When to replace the battery
When the battery is discharged, “ ” appears on the display. If a power interruption occurs while the battery is discharged, the current time and alarm settings will be erased.
Notes for customers: The unit includes a preinstalled CR2032 battery for clock backup, preset to EST. If “AM 12:00” flashes on the display when first connected to AC power, the battery may be discharged; consult your Sony dealer. The preinstalled CR2032 battery is covered by the warranty.
Replacing the backup battery
- Keep the AC plug connected. Remove the battery compartment from the bottom of the unit by pulling it up while sliding the tab.
- Insert a new CR2032 battery with the correct polarity. To remove the old battery, push it out from the side marked PUSH.
- Reinsert the battery compartment until it clicks. The tab locks it.
- Press RADIO to remove “ ” from the display.
Notes: Do not disconnect the AC plug when replacing the battery, or time and alarm settings will be erased. If the unit will be unplugged for a long time, remove the battery to prevent leakage or corrosion.
Troubleshooting
If problems persist after checking the following, consult your nearest Sony dealer.
- Clock flashes “AM 12:00” after a power interruption: The backup battery is discharged. Replace the battery.
- Unsatisfactory reception:
- The AC power cord acts as an FM antenna. Extend it fully.
- Rotate the unit for optimum reception. An AM ferrite bar antenna is built-in.
- Avoid operating the unit on steel or metal surfaces, as this may cause interference.
- Radio or buzzer alarm does not sound at the preset time: Check that “ ” appears on the display.
- Radio alarm activated but no sound: Adjust the volume using VOLUME +/–.
- Clock does not switch to DST automatically: Ensure the clock is set correctly. Confirm that “Aut On” appears on the display after holding DST for over 3 seconds to activate the function.
