Introduction
This document provides instructions and a spare parts list for the PIKO RH S489.0 TT electric locomotive model. The model is equipped with the advanced PIKO SmartDecoder XP Sound Next18, a powerful multiprotocol sound decoder designed for a high-level, noiseless sound experience.
The decoder is compatible with DCC and Motorola digital systems and operates in analog mode on DC and AC layouts. It features RailCom® and RailComPlus® capabilities, an auto-adaptive motor control for smooth operation, and supports up to 1A continuous current draw with amplified function outputs capable of handling up to 0.25A each. Advanced braking functions include ABC braking, ABC automatic shuttle, and ABC slow speed.

Disassembly, Maintenance, and Operation
Disassembly Steps
The following diagrams illustrate basic disassembly steps for the locomotive. Refer to the spare parts list for component identification.
- Main Board + Motor Removal: Diagrams show how to remove the main board and motor. This typically involves releasing clips or screws holding the components in place.
- Chassis Attachments (Front/Coupling): Diagrams illustrate the removal and assembly of front-side chassis components and the coupling drawbar mechanism.
- Chassis Attachments (Bottom): Diagrams show the components attached to the underside of the chassis.
- Bogie Attachments: Diagrams detail the removal and reattachment of components specific to the locomotive's bogies (wheel trucks).
- Wheelset Disassembly: Diagrams show the process of removing wheelsets from the bogies.
- Extensions for Display Models: Notes and diagrams indicate optional parts that can be attached for display-only models.
Diagrams illustrate basic disassembly steps for the locomotive, including removing the body, chassis attachments, bogie attachments, and wheelsets. These diagrams use numbered callouts and textual labels in multiple languages.
Maintenance and Operation
Proper maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your model locomotive.
- Lubrication: If used frequently, oil the wheelsets with a drop of non-resinous, acid-free sewing machine oil! ?
- Running-in Procedure: To achieve optimal running and traction properties, it is advisable to run the locomotive in for approximately 25 minutes in each direction without load. ⚙️ Ensure clean rails for best performance.
