Product Overview

The Wheelock Eluxa weatherproof series strobe appliances (EL4XSTB/EL3RSTB in Blue, EL4XSTG/EL3RSTG in Green, and EL4XSTR/EL3RSTR in Red) are designed for straightforward installation using a pre-wire capable EL4XBB back box or EL3RMP mounting plate. Eluxa 4X/3R strobes are engineered for 24V operation and are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, with options for wall or ceiling mounting.

Complete and Compliant

The Wheelock Eluxa 4X/3R series adheres to NFPA 2016 requirements for 20-millisecond light pulse duration. Furthermore, the Wheelock Eluxa and LED3 product lines are UL/ULC listed as compatible with all Fire Alarm Control Panels (FACP) and associated accessories that have been verified for compatibility with Wheelock model RSS Strobe based products, including the RSS, ASWP, CH, E, EH, ET, ST, HS, MT, S8, SA, STH, and Z Series. The maximum number of Eluxa devices per NAC is calculated by dividing the FACP NAC's maximum current rating by the total current rating of a single Eluxa device, with a limit of 105 Eluxa (or LED3) devices per NAC. Consult FACP installation instructions for precise details. The Wheelock Eluxa Series and Exceder LED3 Series strobes can be installed within the same notification zone and field of view as any RSS Strobe based product.

Wheelock Eluxa 4X/3R Multi-Candela Strobes can function as a non-synchronized strobe appliance when directly connected to a Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP). Alternatively, they can provide a synchronized strobe appliance when used with an FACP that supports the Cooper Wheelock sync protocol, a Dual Sync Module (DSM), or the Wheelock Power Supply.

Architects and Engineers Specifications

The colored lens outdoor strobe appliances shall be Wheelock® Eluxa EL3R/4XST visual strobe appliances for wall or ceiling-mount applications, featuring a low-profile design or approved equivalent. Strobes shall be available with blue, green, and red lens options. Special lettering, including ALERT and no lettering, shall also be available. The Series EL3R/4XST strobes shall meet the following listings and standards:

All inputs shall be compatible with standard reverse polarity supervision of circuit wiring by a Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) and shall be capable of operating from 16 to 33 VDC/VFWR.

The colored lens outdoor strobe series EL3R/4XST appliances shall produce a flash rate of one (1) flash per second over the Regulated Voltage Range. They shall incorporate a Light Emitting Diode (LED) as the light source, protected by a rugged Lexan® lens. The Series is designed for low current consumption. The LED strobe flash duration shall be 20 ms.

The blue lens strobe intensity shall offer 6 field-selectable settings: 15cd, 30cd, 75cd, 95cd, 135cd, and 150cd candela for wall or ceiling mount applications. The green lens strobe intensity shall provide 6 field-selectable settings: 15cd, 30cd, 60cd, 75cd, 115cd, and 125cd candela for wall or ceiling mount applications. The red lens strobe intensity shall feature 6 field-selectable settings: 10cd, 20cd, 40cd, 50cd, 75cd, and 80cd candela for wall or ceiling mount applications. The selector switch for choosing the candela setting shall be tamper-resistant. Appliances with candela settings must display the selected candela value visibly at all times when installed.

The colored lens outdoor strobe series EL3R/4XST appliances shall include a mounting plate or surface mounting box from the factory. The outdoor series EL3R/4XST incorporates pre-wire, pre-test mounting plate and back box terminals. The outdoor series EL3R/4XST is rated to NEMA type 3R, IP54 and NEMA type 4X, IP66 respectively, when used with the included mounting accessory. Two-wire appliance wiring shall allow direct connection to the mounting plate or back box. Removal of an appliance will trigger a supervision fault condition via the Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP). All notification appliances shall be backwards compatible.

The colored lens outdoor strobe series EL3R/4XST appliances shall offer installers ease of installation through a self-supporting hanging hinge feature.

For synchronization requirements, the appliance shall be compatible with Wheelock's DSM Sync Modules, PS Power Supplies, SAFEPATH products, or other manufacturer's panels featuring the built-in Wheelock® Patented Sync Protocol. The strobes must maintain synchronization without drifting at any point during operation. If the sync protocol fails, the strobe shall revert to a non-synchronized flash rate while still maintaining its specified 1 flash per second over its Regulated Voltage Range.
