3 Safety
The device has been manufactured according to the state of the art and recognized safety regulations. Nevertheless, its use may pose a danger to the life and physical integrity of the user or third parties, or lead to damage to the device, the environment, and property.
- Use the device only:
- in perfect condition
- in accordance with its intended use, taking into account safety and risks
- in strict compliance with this user manual
The operator of the installation is responsible for ensuring the safety of the system or device, as well as that of the respective operating personnel. To do this, they must comply with the applicable national laws, standards, and regulations (e.g., IEC/EN 60079-14, IEC/EN 60079-17, and IEC/EN 60079-19).
3.1 Intended Use
The 6036/3 luminaires are used for illuminating surfaces, work areas, and objects. The luminaire can be used indoors and outdoors and is intended for fixed installation.
It is an explosion-proof device, approved for use in Ex zones 1, 2, 21, and 22, in coal mines with firedamp risk, as well as in safe areas. Use in accordance with the intended purpose implies compliance with this user manual and all applicable documents, e.g., the technical data sheet. All other applications are only approved after R. STAHL's consent.
3.2 Personnel Qualification
The operations described in this user manual must be exclusively performed by qualified personnel trained for this purpose. This applies particularly to work in the following areas:
- Mounting/dismounting the device
- Installation
- Commissioning
- Maintenance, repair, cleaning
Personnel qualified to perform these operations must have a level of knowledge that meets applicable local regulations and standards.
Additional knowledge is required for operations performed in Ex zones! R. STAHL recommends the level of knowledge described in the following standards:
- IEC/EN 60079-14 (design, selection, and installation of electrical installations)
- IEC/EN 60079-17 (inspection and maintenance of electrical installations)
- IEC/EN 60079-19 (repair, revision, and refurbishment of devices)
3.3 Residual Risks
3.3.1 Risk of Explosion
To reduce risks in Ex zones, it is essential to observe the following points:
- Always carry out all work steps in an Ex zone with the utmost care!
- Transport, store, design, mount, and use the device only in accordance with the technical specifications (see chapter "Technical Specifications").
Possible hazardous situations ("residual risks") can be differentiated based on the following causes:
Mechanical Damage
The device may be damaged during transport, mounting, or commissioning. Such damage can, among other things, partially or completely nullify the device's explosion protection. Explosions with fatal or serious injuries can be the consequence.
- Transport the device only in its original packaging or equivalent packaging.
- Do not damage the luminaire and conductors during mounting (e.g., when unpacking with a knife).
- Check the packaging and the device for damage. Report any damage to R. STAHL immediately. Do not put a damaged device into service.
- Transport and store the device in its original packaging, in a dry place (without condensation), in a stable position, and protected from shocks.
Overheating or Electrostatic Charge
Operation outside the approved conditions or incorrect cleaning can lead to significant heating, electrostatic charging of the device, and thus cause sparks. Explosions with fatal or serious injuries can be the consequence.
- Use the device only under the prescribed operating conditions (see marking on the device and chapter "Technical Specifications").
- Install the device so that it always operates within the permitted temperature range.
- Do not use the device in environments containing kerosene, ammonia, or phosphorus vapors.
- Do not use the device in an environment where a strong charge is generated.
- Avoid friction and particle flow.
- Clean the device exclusively with a damp cloth.
Inappropriate Mounting, Installation, Commissioning, Maintenance, Operation, or Cleaning
Basic work such as installation, commissioning, maintenance, or cleaning of the device must only be carried out in accordance with national regulations in force in the country of use and by qualified persons. Otherwise, the explosion protection may be invalidated. Explosions with fatal or serious injuries may be the consequence.
- Mounting, installation, commissioning, and maintenance must only be carried out by qualified and authorized personnel (see Chapter 3.2).
- Before commissioning, check that the mounting is correct (see Chapter 7).
- Mount the device only in the permitted mounting position (see Chapter 5.1).
- Mount the device only on a flat surface.
- During mounting, do not damage the housing, conductors, cable entry, and the anti-fall safety catch.
- Do not remove or modify the cable entry.
- Mount the connection cable securely and only if it is not damaged.
- Any modification or transformation of the device is prohibited.
- Repairs to the device must only be carried out by R. STAHL.
- Clean the device gently, using only a damp cloth, without using abrasive or aggressive cleaning agents or solutions.
3.3.2 Risk of Injury
Falling Device or Components
During transport and mounting, the heavy device or components may fall and seriously injure persons through crushing and contusions.
- Observe the user's safety instructions, e.g., wearing protective clothing (work shoes).
- During transport and mounting, use appropriate transport means and equipment, i.e., adapted to the size and weight of the device.
- Observe the maximum weight and load capacity of the device; see information on the shipping label or packaging.
- For fastening, use appropriate mounting material (see accessories) and possibly the anti-fall safety device installed on the luminaire.
Lack of Protective Equipment for Direct Contact with the Device
If the distance to the device is small, the optical radiation from the device may cause injuries to unprotected persons.
- Wear protective equipment (safety glasses) during mounting, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repairs.
- Do not look directly into the luminaire during commissioning.
- Switch off the device before maintenance or cleaning.
Electric Shock
During operation and maintenance, the device is temporarily subjected to high voltages. Therefore, it must be de-energized during mounting, installation, maintenance, cleaning, and dismantling.
Contact with conductors carrying a very high voltage can lead to severe electric shocks, thus causing serious injuries.
- Mount the device only when it is de-energized.
3.3.3 Device Damage
Inadequate operating conditions or improper contact can cause serious damage to the device or individual components, leading to malfunction or general failure.
- Ensure that the maximum ambient temperature is never exceeded.
- In environments with very high humidity, e.g., sewage treatment plants and rainwater retention basins, switch on the device daily for more than 2 hours. This prevents moisture formation inside the device and premature failure of electronic components.
4 Transport and Storage
Transport and store the device carefully and in accordance with the safety instructions (see chapter "Safety").
5 Mounting and Installation
5.1 Mounting / Dismounting
- Mount the device carefully and only in accordance with the safety instructions (see chapter "Safety").
- Carefully read and strictly follow the installation conditions and the following mounting instructions.
5.1.1 Mounting
ℹ️ The device is suitable for wall and ceiling mounting.
The device is supplied with a connection cable.
Mounting position with conductor outlet facing upwards is prohibited outdoors.
DANGER! Risk of injury by strangulation with the connection cable! Failure to comply with this warning may result in serious, even fatal, injuries.
- Secure the flexible wiring connected to the device firmly to the wall if the cable is easily accessible.

Use the accessory mounting range (Ø 54 mm) between Lmin and Lmax.
Fasten the double-threaded screws and appropriate cable glands (accessories).
Screw the cable glands onto the double-threaded screws.
Mount the tubular luminaire in the cable glands.
? Use the factory-installed anti-fall safety device.
5.1.2 Dismounting
- Switch off the device before dismantling.
- Dismantle the tubular luminaire from the cable glands.
5.2 Installation
5.2.1 Electrical Connections
Connection to the Mains
ℹ️ The device is supplied with a connection cable. The connection to the supply voltage must be made in a junction box or via a suitable plug.
Shortening the Connection Cable
DANGER! Risk of explosion due to excessive conductor shortening! Failure to comply with this warning may result in serious, even fatal, injuries.
- Do not shorten the factory-connected conductor to a length less than 1 m.
5.2.2 Luminaires with DALI Connection
DALI-2 (according to IEC 62386):
- Device type 6 (LED driver)
- Device type 49 (integrated BUS power supply ≤ 50 mA) – sizes 3 and 4 only on request
- Device type 51 (energy reporting)
- Device type 52 (diagnostics and maintenance)
The operating hours, dimming, and switching of the luminaire can be controlled using a DALI interface.
ℹ️ For luminaires of size 3 and size 4, the polarity (DA+, DA-) must be observed when connecting to an external DALI network.

5.2.3 Luminaires with Addressing Element
Function
Addressing and switching module for R. STAHL emergency lighting systems according to VDE 0108:
- The module is used for monitoring individual luminaires and for common switching of emergency and mains-powered luminaires.
- The module offers the following functions:
- Luminaire control (ON/OFF) and function interrogation
- Up to 20 addresses per electrical circuit can be set using software
- The type of luminaire circuit (permanent lighting, standby lighting, or lighting to be activated via a switch) is freely programmable
- Mixed operation within a circuit is possible
Addressing
Each luminaire with an integrated addressing element also has a unique serial number. This serial number is located directly on the luminaire and can also be read with a QR code scanner. The luminaire address is assigned using the central battery system configuration software or a programming device available as an accessory.
Control Input:

The addressing element allows connecting a control cable for switching the luminaire with the general lighting.

To reduce luminous intensity, the luminaire can optionally be equipped with a switching phase.

6 Commissioning
Before commissioning, perform the following checks:
- Check the mounting and installation.
- Check if the device is damaged. If necessary, remove foreign bodies.
- Check if the luminaire is securely mounted.
- Check if the supply voltage corresponds to the rated operating voltage.
- Check if the luminaire functions in the Ex zone with both original covers in place.
- Check if the connection cable is undamaged and correctly and securely fastened.
- Commission the device in accordance with the applicable national regulations and the safety instructions in this user manual (Chapter "Safety").
7 Maintenance, Care, Repair
Observe the applicable national standards and regulations in the country of use, e.g., IEC/EN 60079-14, IEC/EN 60079-17, CEI/EN 60079-19.
7.1 Maintenance
In addition to national regulations, also check the following points:
- Formation of cracks and other visible damage on the device
- Cleanliness inside and outside the device
- Aging and damage to cables and conductors
- Correct use and functioning
7.2 Care
Care for the device in accordance with the applicable national regulations and the safety instructions in this user manual (Chapter "Safety").
7.3 Repair
Repairs to the device must only be carried out by R. STAHL.
8 Operation
During operation, the functionality and safety of the device must remain guaranteed.
DANGER! Risk of explosion due to short circuit caused by moisture ingress! Failure to comply with this warning may result in serious, even fatal, injuries.
- Ensure that the cable entries are only on the side or bottom of the device (not on the top).

9 Return
- Any return or packaging of devices must only be carried out in agreement with R. STAHL! For this purpose, please contact your local R. STAHL representative.

10 Cleaning
- Switch off the device before cleaning.
- Before and after cleaning, check if the device is damaged.
- Immediately take damaged devices out of service.
- To avoid electrostatic discharge, devices in Ex zones must only be cleaned with a damp cloth.
- For wet cleaning, use water or mild, non-abrasive, non-aggressive detergents.
- Do not use aggressive detergents or solvents.
11 Disposal
- Observe national and local regulations and legal provisions regarding disposal.
- Materials must be recycled separately.
- Ensure environmentally sound disposal of all components in accordance with legal provisions.
12 Accessories and Spare Parts
NOTICE! Malfunction or damage to the device if non-original parts are used. Failure to comply with this warning may cause material damage!
