Introduction
At this year's IFA, Sharp is presenting the PN-V601 thin bezel display in various installations. The display has been specifically designed for video walls. It is therefore equipped with an extremely thin bezel and has a 152-centimetre (60-inch) screen diagonal. The appliance's full-screen LED backlight ensures uniform light distribution and particularly vibrant pictures.
Berlin, IFA 2011 – When IFA opens its doors on September 2nd, 2011, for one of the world's major trade shows for consumer electronics, Sharp will be exhibiting different cascading possibilities of its PN-V601 display. Videowalls in differing sizes and other installations demonstrate the variety of appliances. The nine-screen formation, for example, means that the displays achieve a total screen diagonal of no less than 4.6 meters (180 inches). The narrow bezel is a mere 6.5 millimetres wide, so the screen area is not broken up by large transitions. The bezelless monitors can be added to at will and can be positioned in a horizontal or vertical configuration to form a single surface.
"Our PN-V601 represents a benchmark on the market for thin bezel monitors,” declares Peter Heins, Product and R&D Manager at Sharp Electronics Europe. “Compared with the other, significantly smaller LC displays available from our competitors, fewer lines occur with our model since we can cover a greater area with one screen. Proportional to the size of the split wall, therefore, the costs of the appliances in terms of purchase price and power consumption are also lower.”
Key Features
Full-screen LED backlight
Apart from the impressive size and the almost seamless overall picture, the brilliant picture quality of the PN-V601 will ensure that the monitor proves a real eye-catcher on any wall. The unit is equipped with a full-screen LED backlight which ensures a vibrant picture irrespective of the content. Several hundred white LEDs are configured immediately behind the LC-display and ensure uniform light distribution. With a maximum brightness of 700 candela per square metre, there is, therefore, no drop-off in brightness even at the edges.
Ideal for large advertising and display surfaces
“These features make our monitors ideally suited for a range of large-screen installations – at trade shows, in large corporate function rooms or for digital signage applications where the units are used as indoor advertising screens in, for example, stations and airports,” explains Peter Heins.
Bezel size: 2.4 millimetres on the right and bottom of the housing, 4.1 millimetres on the left and top of the housing.
Manufacturing and Technology
Production in the first 10th-generation LCD plant
The displays for the new bezelless monitors are manufactured in Sharp's state-of-the-art factory in Sakai. The electronics company is the very first firm to be able to manufacture panels from 10th-generation motherglass panels measuring 2.88 x 3.13 metres and to convert them into LCDs for professional monitors. The efficiency of the production method allows Sharp to market the screens at an attractive price while maintaining consistently high quality standards. A further superlative: with a monthly capacity of 72,000 motherglass panels, Sharp will be able in theory to manufacture 432,000 of the displays per month in future.
Software and Expansion Options
Sharp also provides the necessary software for calibrating the PN-V601. If users want to use the monitors more flexibly, they can also expand the wall using a simple "modular principle". The highlights include the option of an interface board with additional interfaces (I/F expansion) and the facility to connect an external control unit. Appropriate wall brackets can be purchased from Sharp's system partners.
Sharp EUROTOP Sponsoring
From 31 August 2010 to 31 December 2013, Sharp Electronics Europe GmbH is EUROTOP Sponsor of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). This sponsoring contract enables Sharp to benefit from the tournaments organized by UEFA over this period. After the European Under-21 championship and the qualification matches for the UEFA European Cup (EURO 2012), the sponsoring contract will climax in June/July 2012 – when the final rounds of the men's EURO in Poland and Ukraine will coincide with the 100-year anniversary of Sharp. The sponsorship ends in 2013, after the EURO 2012, the Under-21 2013 and the Women's EURO 2013. With this partnership, the Japanese technology company aims to promote public awareness of the Sharp brand and to focus attention on products in the two main business fields of Consumer Electronics and Solar Systems. The company is drawing here on its many years of experience in sports sponsorship.
