Surface Temperature Sensor

Application

The RDF-IR (LCD) is a flush-mounted sensor for surface temperature measurement in living spaces and offices. It utilizes infrared measurement to determine the average temperature over a circular detection area (optical detection range 80 ±5°). This allows for direct measurement of the surface temperature within the sensor's line of sight. When two IR sensors are used, the system can output individual temperatures or the average, minimum, or maximum value of both temperature signals, configurable via the Thermokon USEapp.

Environmental Conditions Note: When multiple bus devices are powered by a 24V AC supply, ensure that all positive (+) operating voltage inputs of the field devices are connected together, and all negative (-) operating voltage inputs = reference potential are connected together (phase-synchronous connection of field devices). Reverse polarity of the supply voltage on one of the field devices will create a short circuit of the supply voltage through that device. The resulting short-circuit current flowing through this field device will cause damage. Therefore, pay attention to correct wiring.

Configuration

For communication between USEapp and USE-M/USE-L products, the Thermokon Bluetooth Dongle with Micro-USB is required (Art. No.: 668262). Commercially available Bluetooth dongles are not compatible.

Application-specific reconfiguration of the devices can be performed using the Thermokon USEapp. Configuration is done when the device is powered. The configuration app and its instructions can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

User Notes

The Bluetooth Dongle clicks easily into the socket. When unplugging, please fix the plug-in card (option board) to prevent it from being accidentally pulled out.

The flush-mounted ceiling sensor is installed in a 26 mm diameter hole.

Application

RJ45 sockets

Base version expandable with a 2nd temperature sensor. Connection of 2 remote sensors is possible with a shielded RJ45 cable up to 10 m long!

Connection Plan

To switch the output voltage (0..10 V or 0..5 V) using jumpers, the display must first be removed from the circuit board. For daisy-chained RS485 cabling, connect both cable shields using the supplied 2-pole terminal as shown.

DIP Switch Settings (Plug-on Board)

The Modbus address of the device is set via a 5-position DIP switch, binary coded in the range of 1...31. With address 0 via DIP, an extended address range (32..247) is available via USEapp.
