Basic Wiring Diagrams
The document illustrates two primary connection methods:
Direct Connection Extender
In a direct connection setup, a Personal Computer connects to an Encoder unit via HDMI and USB. The Encoder then connects to a Decoder unit using a single HDBaseT Cat5e/Cat6 cable. The Decoder unit connects to a Keyboard & Mouse and a USB Thumb Drive. Both the Encoder and Decoder units are powered by a DC 12V power supply.
Diagram shows: Personal Computer -> (HDMI, USB) -> Encoder -> (HDBaseT Cat5e/Cat6) -> Decoder -> (HDMI, USB) -> Keyboard & Mouse, USB Thumb Drive. Both units powered by DC 12V.Extender via Network Switch
For larger installations, multiple Personal Computers can connect to multiple Encoder units via HDMI and USB. Each Encoder connects to a Network Switch using an HDBaseT Cat5e/Cat6 cable. The Network Switch then distributes the signal to multiple Decoder units via HDBaseT Cat5e/Cat6 cables. Each Decoder connects to a Keyboard & Mouse and a USB Thumb Drive. All units are powered by DC 12V.
Diagram shows: Multiple Personal Computers -> (HDMI, USB) -> Multiple Encoders -> (HDBaseT Cat5e/Cat6) -> Network Switch -> (HDBaseT Cat5e/Cat6) -> Multiple Decoders -> (HDMI, USB) -> Keyboard & Mouse, USB Thumb Drive. All units powered by DC 12V.Key for Diagrams:
- HDMI: High-Definition Multimedia Interface connection.
- HDBaseT Cat5e/Cat6: High-bandwidth, long-distance transmission cable.
- USB: Universal Serial Bus connection for peripheral devices.
- Power: DC 12V power connection.
Device Ports and Identification
EX-100-KVM-IP Encoder (Front/Rear)
The Encoder unit features the following ports:
- A (LAN): Connects to the decoder or the network switch for streaming media output.
- B (Link LED): Indicates successful pairing with the decoder.
- C (Power LED): Shows when the device is powered on.
- D (DC 12V): Connection for the 12V power adapter.
- E (HDMI In): Connects to an HDMI source device.
- F (USB Host): Connects to a USB Type A to Type B cable for linking to a desktop or laptop USB port (USB 2.0 compliant).
- G (Channel ID - DIP Switch): Four manual switches used to route the encoder to a specific decoder. Refer to the "DIP Switch Setting" section for configuration.
EX-100-KVM-IP Decoder (Front/Rear)
The Decoder unit features the following ports:
- A (USB Device): Connects to USB devices such as keyboards, mice, or USB thumb drives.
- B (Link LED): Indicates successful pairing with the encoder.
- C (Power LED): Shows when the device is powered on.
- D (DC 12V): Connection for the 12V power adapter.
- E (LAN): Connects to the encoder or the network switch for streaming media input.
- F (HDMI Out): Connects to an HDMI display.
- G (Channel ID - DIP Switch): Four manual switches used to route the decoder to a specific encoder. Refer to the "DIP Switch Setting" section for configuration.
DIP Switch Setting
To route signals between an encoder and a decoder, the DIP switch settings on the decoder must match the settings on the encoder. If linking to a different encoder, update the decoder's DIP switch settings accordingly.
Note:
- DIP switch settings are for one-to-one routing. Up to 16 encoder-to-decoder arrangements are supported within the same network.
- Reboot both the encoder and decoder after changing DIP switch settings for them to take effect.
- By default, each individual switch is in the up position.
Installation & Wiring
Ensure devices are disconnected from the power source before installation and wiring.
Bracket Installation
To install mounting brackets onto a surface:
- Attach a mounting bracket to the enclosure using the provided screws. The bracket attaches to the enclosure as illustrated.
- Repeat step 1 for the other side of the device.
- Attach the brackets to the desired surface using screws (not included).
IMPORTANT! Wiring Guidelines
- Factors such as patch panels, wall plates, cable extenders, cable kinks, and electrical or environmental interference can adversely affect signal transmission and performance. Minimize or remove these factors during installation for optimal results.
- WyreStorm recommends using shielded category cable to minimize signal noise and interference.
- WyreStorm recommends using pre-terminated HDMI cables due to connector complexity, ensuring accurate connections and optimal product performance.
Cat6 Cable Performance Guide
The chart below indicates transmission distances for Cat5e/Cat6 cables:
Chart showing transmission distance (0m to 100m / 0ft to 328ft) for 4K/HD transmission, with a note recommending shielded cable for signal integrity.Troubleshooting
No or Poor Quality Picture (snow or noisy image)
- Verify that power is supplied to both the transmitter (encoder) and receiving (decoder) devices.
- Ensure all HDMI and UTP connections are secure and functioning correctly.
- Confirm the UTP cable is terminated correctly according to the EIA568B standard.
- Check that the output resolution of the source and display is supported by the extender.
Troubleshooting Tips
- WyreStorm recommends using a cable tester or connecting the cable to other devices to verify functionality.
