Precautions

These operating instructions contain important information for the safe, proper, and economical operation of swimming pool pumps. Strict observation of these instructions will help avoid dangers, reduce repair costs and shutdown times, and increase product reliability and working life.

Installation Instructions

  1. Mount the filter on a level concrete slab. Position it so that instructions, warnings, and the pressure gauge are visible to the operator. Ensure piping connections, control valve, and drain port are convenient and accessible for servicing and winterizing.
  2. Install electrical controls (e.g., switches, timers) at least 2 meters (5 feet) from the filter to allow adequate space during system start-up.
  3. Provide sufficient clearance around the filter for visual verification of the clamp installation.
  4. Ensure enough space above the filter to remove the lid for cleaning and servicing; this distance varies by model.
  5. Position the filter to direct water drainage safely. Rotate the valve to direct purged air or water. Improperly positioned water discharge can create electrical hazards or property damage.
  6. Make all plumbing connections according to local codes. Filter connections have an O-ring seal; use only silicone-based lubricant on O-rings.
  7. The maximum working pressure is 3 bar. Do not exceed this pressure, even during hydrostatic tests. Pressures above 3.5 bar can cause the lid to blow off, leading to severe injury, death, or property damage.

Warnings Before Installation

⚠️ This filter operates under high pressure. Servicing any part of the circulating system (lock ring, pump, filter, valves, etc.) can allow air into the system, which can become pressurized. Pressurized air can cause the lid to blow off, resulting in severe injury, death, or property damage. Follow these instructions to avoid this hazard:

  1. Before positioning valves or performing assembly, disassembly, or adjustment of the lock ring or any other service on the circulating system:
    1. Turn off the pump and shut off all automatic controls to prevent inadvertent starting during servicing.
    2. Open the air relief valve.
    3. Wait until all pressure is relieved; the pressure gauge must read zero (0).
  2. Follow the filter lock ring installation instructions exactly when installing the lock ring.
  3. After completing service on the circulating system, follow system restart instructions exactly.
  4. Maintain the circulation system properly. Replace worn or damaged parts immediately (e.g., lock ring, pressure gauge, relief valve, O-rings).
  5. Ensure the filter is properly mounted and positioned according to the provided instructions.

Warnings Before Operation

  1. This filter operates under pressure. With the lock ring properly installed and no air in the water system, the filter operates safely.
  2. The pressure gauge is the primary indicator of filter operation. Maintain the pressure gauge in good working condition.
  3. Clean the filter when the pressure reads 80-100 kPa higher than the original starting pressure. Pressure increases as dirt is removed, but this increase can vary with bathing loads, temperatures, and weather conditions.

Installation/Restart Instructions

Follow these instructions exactly to prevent the lid from blowing off during system restart or later operation. Perform these steps before working on any part of the circulating system (lock ring, pump, filter, valves, etc.):

  1. Turn the pump off and shut off all controls to ensure the system is not inadvertently started during servicing.
  2. Install pipeline connections on the INLET and OUTLET fittings. Ensure glues on connections are fully dried before starting the pump.
  3. Check the lock ring and ensure the O-ring is correctly positioned.
  4. Tighten the lock ring screw.
  5. Restart the circulation system and rapidly open the air relief valve to release trapped air.
  6. Close the air relief valve after a steady stream of water drops appears.

The system is not working properly if:

  1. A solid stream of water does not appear within 30 seconds after the pump's inlet basket fills with water.
  2. The pressure gauge indicates pressure before water outflow appears.

If either condition occurs, shut off the pump immediately, open valves in the water return line to relieve pressure, and clean the air relief valve.

Filter Maintenance

  1. Turn the pump off and shut off any automatic controls to ensure the system is not inadvertently started during servicing.
  2. Open the air relief valve and the waste drain valve.
  3. Remove the locking ring, then lift the tank lid using the handles.
  4. Remove the cartridge elements from the center support tube.
  5. Using a garden hose with a nozzle, spray the cartridge element to dislodge and wash away dirt. Spray both the outside and inside of the cartridge for thorough cleaning.
  6. Turn the cartridge element several times during washing to clean the media thoroughly.
  7. Clean and remove debris from inside the filter tank and from the O-ring and its seat on the tank base.
  8. Replace the clean cartridge elements onto the internal support tube and install the assembly into the filter tank body, ensuring it is fully seated.
  9. Replace the tank lid onto the tank body, ensuring it is fully and firmly seated on the tank base.
  10. Place the lock ring over the tank lid and tighten the screw firmly.
  11. Open the air relief valve and restart the circulation pump.
  12. Close the air relief valve after a steady stream of water drops appears.

The system is not working properly if:

  1. A solid stream of water does not appear within 30 seconds after the pump's inlet basket fills with water.
  2. The pressure gauge indicates pressure before water outflow appears.

If either condition exists, shut off the pump immediately, open valves in the water return line to relieve pressure, and clean the air relief valve.

Note on Cleaning

Algae, calcium, clay, sustain oil, and body oils can form a coating on cartridge elements that may be difficult to remove with normal hosing. Soaking the cartridge elements in a de-greaser and/or descaled liquids is recommended to dissolve dirty particles.

Troubleshooting

⚠️ Air entering the filter is dangerous and can cause the lid to blow off. Correct any conditions allowing air into the system. Common ways to identify air entry:

  1. Low water level in the pool or spa, causing the skimmer to starve the pump. Refill water to the pool or spa.
  2. Air bubbles exiting water return lines into the pool or spa while the pump is running.

If the pressure gauge drops:

The pressure gauge is a critical part of the filter system, indicating system operation. Maintain it in good working condition by checking its operation:

  1. The pressure gauge should read zero (0) when the system is turned off and pressure is relieved.
  2. The pressure gauge should indicate pressure when the system is operating.
  3. The pressure gauge should be readable and undamaged.
  4. Replace the pressure gauge if it does not meet these requirements.
