2. Presentation of the Product
The laser rangefinder has the following components:
- 1. Eyepiece / diopter adjustment ring: Used for focusing the display.
- 2. Lens / laser emitter: The front lens that emits the laser beam.
- 3. Laser receiver: Receives the reflected laser beam.
- 4. Mode button: Used to cycle through measurement modes.
- 5. On button: Powers the device on/off and initiates measurements.
- 6. Battery cover: Located at the bottom, provides access to the battery compartment.
3. Installing the Battery
The laser rangefinder is powered by a 3V CR2 Lithium battery.
To insert or replace the battery:
- Unscrew the battery cover using a coin or similar by turning anticlockwise.
- Insert the battery with the negative end first.
- Screw the battery cover back on by turning clockwise.
A low battery is indicated by the battery icon ? on the LCD display. You can purchase NUM'AXES batteries from your distributor or directly from NUM'AXES.
4. Meter/Yard Switching
The range can be displayed in meters or in yards, as desired.
- A short press on the On button switches on the display and shows the currently selected unit.
- An extended press (over 3 seconds) on the Mode button will change the unit setting.
5. Range Estimation
Focusing the Aiming Mark
Adjust the diopter to obtain a clear image on the LCD screen.
- Rotate the diopter adjustment ring counterclockwise until it stops.
- Turn on the power by pressing the On button.
- Rotate the diopter adjustment ring clockwise until the display comes into focus.
If the diopter is not adjusted correctly for your eyesight, aiming may be difficult.
Measuring
While looking through the rangefinder:
- Press the On button once to activate the LCD screen.
- Place the aiming symbol (center of the field of view) on a target at least 5 yards/meters away.
- Press the On button again for approximately 3 seconds until the range reading is displayed.
The laser emission symbol ⚡ blinks while the laser is transmitting. Once a range is acquired, release the On button. The laser emission symbol disappears when the button is released, indicating the laser is no longer transmitting.
You can press the On button again at any time to measure distance to a new target.
If a measurement cannot be taken (e.g., range exceeded, poor target reflectivity), the indicator “END” will appear on the LCD screen. A new measurement can be taken immediately.
After measurement, the result is displayed for approximately 15 seconds before the rangefinder automatically switches off.
Scan Mode
The rangefinder can measure in constant operation using Scan mode. To use Scan mode, hold down the On button and move the rangefinder from object to object. The range will be continuously updated as multiple objects are targeted. This mode is helpful for measuring small or moving targets.
Measuring Modes
The NUM'AXES rangefinder offers different measuring modes to suit your situation and environment.
To switch modes:
- Press the On button once to turn on the unit.
- While looking through the eyepiece, briefly press and release the Mode button.
The device defaults to the last used measuring mode when switched on.
Standard Mode
Indicator: No icon on the left of the range.
This mode measures distances up to approximately 800 m / 875 y. It is suitable for moderately reflective targets in most situations.
Rain Mode
Indicator: ?️ icon on the left of the range.
This mode is useful for measuring targets beyond 30 m / 33 y on rainy days.
Golf Mode / Nearest Object Priority
Indicator: ⛳ icon on the left of the range.
This mode allows easy acquisition of small targets (e.g., a golf flag) without inadvertently measuring distances to background objects with stronger signal strength. When multiple objects are acquired, the distance to the closer object is displayed, and a circle surrounds the ⛳ icon to indicate this. If only one object is detected, the circle may not appear.
Advice: While pressing the On button, move the device slowly from object to object to ensure the laser hits multiple objects and you are displaying the distance to the closest recognized object.
Hunt Mode / Furthest Object Priority
Indicator: ? icon on the left of the range.
This mode ignores objects like brush and tree branches to display the distance only to background objects. When multiple objects are acquired, the distance to the furthest object is displayed, and a circle surrounds the ? icon. If only one object is detected, the circle may not appear.
Advice: While pressing the On button, move the device slowly from object to object to ensure the laser hits multiple objects and you are displaying the distance to the furthest recognized object.
6. Range Estimation Accuracy
The ranging accuracy is typically ± 1 m/y. The product measures the time a laser beam takes to travel to the target and back. The maximal range depends on environmental conditions, target color, surface finish, size, shape, and other characteristics.
Factor | Longer Range | Shorter Range |
---|---|---|
Atmospheric condition | Clear visibility | Haze, fog, snow, rain |
Brightness | Low brightness (twilight, overcast skies) | High brightness (sunshine) |
Object color | White or bright-colored object | Black object |
Surface finish | Object with shiny finish | Object with dull finish |
Object size | Large size object | Small size object |
Angle to the object | 90° angle (perpendicular) | Sharp angle |
Object structure | Homogeneous structure (sign, wall) | Inhomogeneous structure (bush, tree) |
7. Cautions for Use
- The NUM'AXES rangefinder uses an eye-safe laser. Do not switch the unit on while aiming at a human eye or looking into the lens.
- Do not press the On and Mode buttons simultaneously.
- Keep the rangefinder out of reach of children.

Lenses
- Do not wipe dust or sand from the lens; blow it off or use a soft lens brush.
- Fingerprints can be cleaned by breathing on the lens and rubbing with a clean optic-cleaning cloth.
- Avoid using coarse cloths, velvet, or ordinary tissue, as they may scratch the lens surface.
- A cloth used for cleaning the main body should not be reused on the lens.
- For thorough cleaning, photographic lens tissue may be used.
Main Body
Clean the body surface with a soft, clean cloth. Do not use benzene, thinner, or other cleaners containing organic solvents.
Storage
Store the rangefinder in a cool, dry place to prevent condensation or mold. After use on a rainy day or at night, dry it thoroughly at room temperature before storing.
