JBL BAR 500MK2 User Manual

Welcome to the JBL BAR 500MK2 user manual. This guide provides detailed instructions for setting up, using, and troubleshooting your new soundbar system.

Important Safety Instructions

Please read these instructions carefully before using the product.

  • Power Voltage: Ensure the JBL BAR 500MK2 is used with AC voltage 100-240 volts, 50/60 Hz. Connecting to other voltages may cause safety hazards, fire, or damage the unit. Consult your retailer if unsure about voltage requirements in your area.
  • Extension Cords: Use only the supplied power cord. Avoid placing the power cord under carpets or heavy objects. Replace damaged cords immediately with factory-specified cables.
  • Handling Power Cords: Always pull the plug, not the cord, when disconnecting from the AC outlet. Unplug the unit if it will be unused for a long period.
  • Do Not Open Cabinet: The product contains no user-serviceable parts. Opening the cabinet poses an electrical shock hazard and will void your warranty. If liquid enters the unit, disconnect from AC power immediately and contact an authorized service center.

Notes: Ensure the power cable is properly connected. Do not place any objects on top of the product.

Follow these steps for wall mounting:

  1. Preparation: Attach the provided wall mounting template to the wall with tape. Mark screw locations. Drill 4 mm holes at the marked locations.
  2. Attach Brackets: Install the wall mounting brackets.
  3. Secure Soundbar: Use screws to attach the mounting brackets to the bottom of the soundbar.
  4. Mount Soundbar: Attach the soundbar to the wall.

Notes: Ensure the wall can support the soundbar's weight. Mount vertically only. Avoid locations with high temperature or humidity. Ensure cables can be connected properly before mounting. Disconnect the soundbar from the power outlet before wall mounting to prevent electrical shock.

Connections

Connecting to TV and Digital Devices

Connect the soundbar to your TV via the provided HDMI cable or an optional optical cable for audio playback. HDMI connection supports digital audio and video in a single cable and is the preferred option.

Notes: HDMI connection takes priority over optical for TV audio input. Full compatibility with all HDMI-CEC devices is not guaranteed. HDMI and optical cables for digital devices are sold separately.

TV (HDMI eARC)

Recommended for the best Dolby Atmos experience.

Diagram Description: Shows connections from TV HDMI eARC to Soundbar HDMI IN (eARC), and from a digital device to Soundbar HDMI OUT (TV ARC/eARC). Also shows an OPTICAL connection.

  1. Connect the soundbar to your TV's HDMI IN (eARC) connector using the provided HDMI cable. Ensure HDMI-CEC and HDMI eARC are enabled on your TV.
  2. Use an HDMI V2.0 or later cable to connect your TV to a digital device (e.g., streaming device, set-top box, DVD/Blu-ray player, game console). Ensure HDMI-CEC is enabled on the digital device. For the best Dolby Atmos experience, set the audio output on your TV and digital device to "Bitstream" or "Raw data".

Notes: To play audio from a connected digital device, select the TV source. Dolby Atmos Virtual can expand legacy channel-based audio (5.1, 7.1) to an immersive 3D Atmos experience.

TV (HDMI ARC)

Diagram Description: Shows connections from TV HDMI ARC to Soundbar HDMI IN (ARC), and from a digital device to Soundbar HDMI OUT. Also shows an OPTICAL connection.

  1. Connect the soundbar to your TV's HDMI IN (ARC) connector using the provided HDMI cable. Ensure HDMI-CEC and HDMI ARC are enabled on your TV.
  2. Use an HDMI V2.0 or later cable to connect your soundbar to a digital device (e.g., set-top box, DVD/Blu-ray player, game console). Ensure HDMI-CEC is enabled on the digital device. Set audio output to "Bitstream" or "Raw data" for Dolby Atmos.

Notes: To play audio from a digital device connected to the soundbar, select the HDMI IN source. If your TV does not support HDMI eARC, connect your digital device via the soundbar's HDMI/HDMI IN connector instead of the TV's, otherwise Dolby Atmos information may not pass through the HDMI (ARC) connector.

OPTICAL
