TOPPING Tune V1.3 Reference Guide
1. Installing and Launching TOPPING Tune
System Requirements:
- Windows 10 or later.
- 1 GHz Pentium-based PC (or compatible). Faster CPUs are recommended for best performance.
- 2 GB RAM; 4 GB or more recommended.
- Available high-speed USB 2.0 (or 3.0) port.
- A large hard drive (preferably at least 512 GB).
Windows Installation:
- Visit https://www.topping.audio/ to download the TOPPING Tune application.
- Open the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
The installation process includes selecting the installation language, disconnecting any Topping audio devices, accepting the license agreement, preparing for installation, selecting additional tasks (like creating a desktop shortcut), and completing the installation.
After installation, connect the PC to the unit using the included USB-C cable. If more power is required, a 5V adapter can be connected to the POWER port. Note that PEQ only supports USB input.
Launch TOPPING Tune by double-clicking the desktop shortcut. The software will automatically check for firmware updates when a unit is connected if the PC is online.
2. Overview
The TOPPING Tune software interface is divided into several key sections:
- 1. System settings: For language selection, changing the exported EQ file directory, checking for updates, viewing version information, and restarting the software.
- 2. Other settings: For importing and selecting target or source frequency response curves, and exporting tuned frequency response curves.
- 3. Save and load configuration: To add tuned frequency response curves from local configurations to the device configuration for offline use.
- 4. Chart section: Displays target curves, source frequency curves, curves for each filter, and stacked filter curves.
- 5. Divided section: Allows zooming into the PEQ setting section or chart section by dragging up or down.
- 6. PEQ setting section: An equalizer that supports up to 10 bands.
- 7. Information bar: Displays device model, connection status, audio format, selected EQ band, maximum supported EQ bands, and the unit's PEQ status (on/off).
3. System settings
Within System settings, users can:
- Language selection: Choose between Chinese and English.
- EQ Export File Directory: Change the default directory for exporting EQ files.
- Power-up AutoRun: Enable the software to run automatically on startup.
- Filtered FR alignment: Align the response of filtered curves to 0dB at 500Hz.
- High Sampling Rate Mute: Automatically mute audio if the sampling rate exceeds 192kHz to prevent potential hearing damage due to sudden volume changes when PEQ becomes ineffective.
- Close the main panel: Choose to minimize to the system tray without exiting or to exit the program completely.
- Check Update: Check for and install software updates.
- Official Web: Visit the official TOPPING website.
- Save Changes: Save the current system settings.
4. Other settings
This section allows for managing audio curve files:
- Export: Export the current combined filter curve file.
- Import: Select and import target curves, source frequency response curves, or filter parameters.
- Target curve files: Select desired target curve files (e.g., Harman OE).
- Source frequency response curve files: Select desired source frequency response curve files.
5. Save and load configuration
This feature allows users to manage custom audio configurations:
- Local Configuration: Create and save personalized frequency response curves for different listening habits, music types, or scenarios. Users can quickly load these configurations when switching scenarios.
- Create local configurations: Add a new configuration by clicking the '+' icon, naming it, and pressing Enter. Configurations can also be copied.
- Rename: Right-click a configuration and select 'Rename'.
- Delete: Right-click a configuration and select 'Delete'.
- Device Configuration: Load local configurations onto the device for offline use. Devices support up to 5 custom entries, with some models offering an additional 5 default preset configurations (which cannot be modified).
- Ways to add device configuration:
- Select a local configuration, right-click, and choose 'Store to device'.
- Click the '+' icon to the right of the device configuration to add it.
6. Chart section
The Chart section visually represents various frequency response curves:
- Displays target curves, source frequency curves, individual filter curves, and combined filter curves.
- PEQ Mode: Can be set to L+R (applies same settings to both channels) or L/R (independent settings for each channel).
- RAW/Compensated: RAW indicates no target curve compensation is used, while Compensated uses target curve compensation.
- Users can zoom in and out on the Y-axis using the mouse wheel for detailed observation of frequency response changes.
7. Divided section
This section allows users to adjust the view of the PEQ setting section and the chart section by dragging the divider vertically.
8. PEQ setting section
This section provides comprehensive control over equalization:
- Preamplification: Adjusts overall gain or attenuation (±12dB), affecting all frequency points. Filtered FR is unaffected.
- Equalization band: Allows for the addition and configuration of up to 10 EQ bands.
- Checkbox: Selects an EQ band.
- Filter types: Includes Peaking filter, Low-pass filter, High-pass filter, Low-shelf filter, and High-shelf filter, each with adjustable parameters.
- Frequency: Sets the center frequency (peaking filter), cutoff frequency (low/high-pass), or the frequency at half gain (shelf filters).
- Gain: Boosts or attenuates volume for a specific frequency point (±12dB range).
- Q factor: Defines the bandwidth of the affected frequency range (0.1-15 range). Higher Q values result in steeper curves and narrower influence, while lower Q values create flatter curves and wider influence.
- Adjusting parameters: Use the mouse wheel over the knob or enter values directly. Double-click the knob to reset.
- Delete: Removes the current EQ band.
- Add: Adds a new EQ band.
- Clear filter values: Options to reset selected EQ bands or all EQ bands, including preamplification.
9. Information bar
The Information bar displays real-time status and settings:
- Device: Shows the connected device model.
- Connection status: Indicates if the device is connected or disconnected.
- Audio format: Displays the current audio format (PCM or DSD).
- Sampling rate: Shows the sample rate of the currently playing song (PCM: 4.1kHz-768kHz, DSD: 2.82MHz-22.56MHz).
- Selected EQ band: Indicates the total number of selected EQ bands in the PEQ setting section.
- Maximum number of band supported by EQ: Shows the maximum supported EQ bands based on the audio format (e.g., 10 bands for PCM 44.1kHz-192kHz; 0 bands for higher rates and DSD). PEQ supports up to PCM 192kHz/32bit.
- EQ of the unit is on/off: Displays whether the unit's EQ is enabled or disabled when connected.
