UGEARS Safe Mechanical Model
Assembly Instructions
Welcome to the assembly guide for the UGEARS Safe mechanical model. Please read these instructions carefully before starting.
General Assembly Advice
- Remove model parts from the hanger board as illustrated. Be careful not to break parts.
- If a part does not remove easily, carefully cut it out with a knife.
- This model is intended for self-assembly without glue.
- If you have difficulty installing the axles, try waxing them with a regular candle.
- All moving parts can also be waxed during assembly to reduce friction when operating the model.
- ? Caution: Do not use a lighted candle.
- ? Caution: Axles have sharp points.
Assembly Steps
Step 1: Assemble the Main Body
Take two side panels (part 12) and attach them to the base panel (part 2). Arrows indicate the direction of connection. Then, attach the front panel (part 1) and the back panel (part 11) to form the basic cube structure.
Step 2: Continue Body Assembly
Continue attaching panels and internal structural components as shown in the diagrams. Parts like 3, 62, 68, 65, and 66 are used to build the outer shell and internal supports.
Step 3: Assemble Internal Mechanisms
Begin assembling the internal gear and lever mechanisms. This involves connecting various small wooden parts, shafts, and gears. Pay close attention to the numbered parts (e.g., 25, 26, 47, 30, 46, 29, 45, 44) and their precise placement as indicated by arrows and close-up diagrams.
Step 4: Integrate Internal Mechanisms
Continue assembling and integrating the complex internal mechanisms. Steps involve connecting multiple gear sets and levers using parts such as 53, 54, 51, 52, 55, 56, 43, and 28.
Step 5: Assemble the Lock Mechanism Base
Assemble the main dial and lock mechanism components. This includes creating the rotating discs and gear systems using parts like 15, 50, 31, 33, 36, 34, 16, 39, 35, and 38.
Step 6: Complete the Lock Mechanism
Continue assembling the lock mechanism, connecting various discs, shafts, and gears. Use parts such as 22, 23, 27, and 32 as shown in the diagrams.
Step 7: Set the Combination Lock
The safe is assembled with a standard combination lock code of 321. To set a different code:
- Reposition pegs (parts 48 and 49) in the large washers (parts 40, 41, 42) into different slots. Refer to Table 1 for code setting options.
- ? Caution: Do not install pegs in slots with opposite numbers (e.g., 1 and 6, or 4 and 9). See Fig. 2.
- The final digit of the code depends on the lock knob's position. Part 32 indicates the correct placement with arrows and digits 1-6 and 2-7. Do not install the knob without arrows. See Fig. 3.
Step 8: Operate the Lock
To find the actual code configured when assembling:
- Turn the lock knob counterclockwise (left) twice before entering the code.
- First digit: Rotate the lock knob counterclockwise until the slot on the third disc aligns with the ridge on the lock mechanism. Note the digit on the knob aligned with the triangle mark.
- Second digit: Rotate the lock knob clockwise to zero, then further until the slot on the second disc aligns with the ridge. Note the digit on the knob aligned with the triangle mark (second disc is marked red).
- Third digit: Rotate the lock knob counterclockwise until the lock opens. Note the digit on the knob aligned with the triangle mark (first disc is marked green).
- The lock opens when the slots on all three discs align with the lock mechanism.
- To close the lock, turn the knob counterclockwise. Check the code a few times by looking at the digits on the lock knob.
- Ensure only whole numbers are present in the code.
- ? Caution: After assembling the lock, do not close the safe door until you have checked and re-checked that the lock code is working properly. Close the door only after the lock is completely assembled with all parts installed.
Step 9: Final Assembly of Outer Panels
Attach the remaining outer panels and doors to complete the safe structure. Use parts such as 10, 13, 17, 63, 61, 68, 67, and 64 as shown in the diagrams.
Step 10: Final Integration
Complete the assembly by attaching the final components, including the door and internal mechanisms, using parts like 59, 37, 5, and 4.
Step 11: Inserting Coins
To use the safe as a coin bank, push a coin into the slot on the top of the safe. The coin will drop inside.
Step 12: Emergency Opening Procedure
In case of emergency, follow these steps to open the safe:
- Step 1: Lift the top panels slightly.
- Step 2: Slide out the side panel.
- Step 3: Push down on the top panel to release the locking mechanism.
- Step 4: Remove the top panel.
- Step 5: Push the side panel to release it.
- Step 6: Slide out the front panel to access the interior.
