LINKTAP-T1-2-Zone-Wireless-Water-Timer-PRODUCT

The LinkTap T1 2-Zone Wireless Water Timer features a two-piece design, consisting of a LinkTap 2-zone wireless valve controller (also referred to as ValveLinker) and a LinkTap 2-zone valve & flow meter device (T1).

LINKTAP-T1-2-Zone-Wireless-Water-Timer- (1)

The LinkTap ValveLinker operates with either one or two standard 9-volt alkaline, lithium, or rechargeable lithium batteries (not included). Under normal conditions, two 9-volt 500 mAh alkaline batteries can last for 1 year and 4 months, while two 9-volt 1000 mAh lithium batteries can last for 2.5 years.

  • Please use high-quality alkaline or lithium batteries and avoid carbon-zinc batteries, NiMH, or Ni-Cd rechargeable batteries.
  • The LinkTap water timer is intended for use with clean municipal water. If utilizing rainwater or well water, it is essential to install a filter before the water enters the valve. The LinkTap device must not be used in conjunction with chemicals, dirty water, or easily flammable and explosive substance.
  • The LinkTap water timer is designed exclusively for outdoor watering applications. Indoor use may lead to water damage to the house in the event of malfunctions, and LinkTap assumes no responsibility for any resulting losses or damages to the indoor environment.
  • The LinkTap water timer should be removed from the faucet and stored indoors before freezing weather approaches to prevent damage to the valve.

Installation

The LinkTap T1 2-zone water timer uses the same LinkTap Gateway as other LinkTap watering devices. If you already have a LinkTap system installed, please proceed to Step 3 below.

Step 1
Connect LinkTap Gateway to a LAN port of your home broadband modem (or a network switch, a router, a hub, a Wi-Fi extender) using the supplied ethernet cable. Power on the Gateway using the supplied USB cord and power adapter. 3 solid green LEDs (Power, Link and Internet) indicate that the Gateway has connected to the LinkTap cloud server. This process may take up to a few minutes.

To reduce possible interference, please place the Gateway over 60cm (or 2 feet) away from any power sockets and/or other electronic devices. Tip: Placing the Gateway at a higher location will usually increase the wireless coverage.

Step 2
Register the Gateway through LinkTap’s free mobile app or web app. When the registration is completed, the Synced LED on the Gateway will turn solid green.

Step 3
Add a new ValveLinker device through the LinkTap app by scanning the device’s QR code. Once the device is successfully added to your LinkTap account, four ValveLinkers will be displayed on the app, and each can be controlled independently.

Step 4
Insert one or two 9-volt alkaline (or lithium, or rechargeable lithium) batteries into the ValveLinker with the correct polarity, ensuring the batteries are properly placed in the battery connectors. The ValveLinker will automatically connect to the Gateway in 5-60 seconds. Two solid green LED lights*( LINKTAP-T1-2-Zone-Wireless-Water-Timer- (5)) will illuminate on the device once connected. To save battery power, these two lights will go off after being solid green for 3 seconds.

Step 5
Mount the ValveLinker on a wall or a hardwood stake. In most situations, the ValveLinker should be positioned as high as possible for optimal wireless performance.

LINKTAP-T1-2-Zone-Wireless-Water-Timer- (8) Metal, soil, water, and thick plant leaves can drastically block wireless signals. The LinkTap wireless devices should avoid being placed behind those materials.

Tip: The locations of the ValveLinker and Gateway can greatly affect the wireless performance of those devices. The LinkTap app comes with a Device Health Check tool. (This tool can also be accessed in a web browser by visiting www.link-tap.com/health.) Before fixing the ValveLinker to a certain location, you can temporarily leave it in the preferred spot for 6-24 hours and then check the wireless receiving signal strength and connection performance of the device through the tool.

If the signal is weak, or the wireless connection performance is poor, then you should change the location of the ValveLinker or Gateway to achieve a more stable connection. A simple way to accomplish this is by moving the Gateway closer to the ValveLinker via a Wi-Fi extender. For more detailed information on improving wireless performance, please refer to the LinkTap FAQ (www.link-tap.com/faq).

Step 6
Screw the T1 device onto your garden faucet securely by hand to prevent leaks. Then, connect the ValveLinker to the T1 via the valve connection cable and flow meter connection cable. Tighten the cable connectors by hand to ensure a waterproof seal. Please avoid using mechanical tools (e.g., pliers or wrenches) to tighten the T1’s inlet collar, as doing so may lead to damage.

At this point, you can verify the water cut-off detection and notification process by following the steps below:

  1. Log into the app, go to the Device Details page, and then enable Water cut-off alert.
  2. Turn off the faucet completely and ensure that no water flows out of the faucet.
  3. Press the Manual On/Off button on the ValveLinker or activate Instant mode on the app to start watering.
Within 45 seconds, you should receive a water cut-off alert on your phone.

Manual Watering
Press the blue Manual On/Off button once to start or stop watering. You can also partially or fully enable the Manual Button Lockout function through the app to prevent the button from being pressed by mistake.

Step 7
Enable all fault alert options on the app. You can now remotely access your LinkTap wireless water timer from anywhere with peace of mind!

About the fault detection function:
Your LinkTap T1 2-zone wireless water timer contains two flow meters. In addition to measuring flow rate in real-time, the device can detect the following faults in real time and send push notifications and emails to both you and your nominated person, such as a neighbor or friends.

  1. The valve failed to shut down the water properly.
  2. The valve failed to open properly.
  3. The main water is turned off, resulting in no water flowing through the valve.
  4. The water flow rate is abnormally increasing or decreasing.

The real-time push notifications will be sent to all your smartphones and tablets that have the LinkTap app installed, and an email will be sent to your registered email address (and up to two additional email addresses). You can choose to add an email address for your neighbors, friends, family members, or colleagues so that when a fault occurs and you’re unable to respond promptly, they can be notified and provide assistance.

When a fault occurs, the system will take multiple measurements in order to avoid false positives. As a result, real-time push notifications and emails will be delayed by 10 to 45 seconds following an identified fault. Similarly, when the flow rate changes, the current flow rate value won’t be shown in the app until 10 to 45 seconds later.
