No, once pairing of smartwatch is completed, and the smartwatch is connected to cellular network, the smartwatch can be used independently as an extension of the primary Phone device to use cellular services with same-terms and conditions as available for primary Phone device. There is no need for proximity between primary device and smartwatch. However for connection via bluetooth, proximity is required. When in proximity, smartwatch will continue to be connected via Bluetooth to your smartphone.
