For a detailed description of the TCS3448 EVM, please refer to the TCS3448 User Guide:
- Include the Document Number of the respective User Guide. Each TCS3448 Evaluation kit (EVM) comes with the following components:

Software installation
- Download the latest GUI software installer from the ams-osram.com website.
- Run the Setup.exe file from the downloaded media.
- The Setup Wizard will open and guide you through the installation of the TCS3448 host software. For most cases, all the default settings are appropriate.
- At the end of the installation, click Finish to exit the setup.
Hardware connection
- Plug the TCS3448 Daughterboard into the FTDI Controller board (Figure 2). Always use ESD procedures when handling the EVM.
- Using the enclosed USB cable, plug the micro-B connector into the EVM module. With the other end of the cable, plug the USB A-connector into a USB port on the computer. When the USB cable is connected, the green LED should light up, indicating that the USB interface is receiving power, and the controller board processor is running. If the green LED does not light up, check the USB cable connections — unplug the USB cable and try again. If the green LED still does not light up, check the PC for USB error messages.
- If more than one EVM is connected to the computer, select the correct device from the displayed pop-up window (Figure 3).

Start the application
To start the application, select “ams-OSRAM > TCS3448 EvalSw ALS” on the All-Programs menu. The default installation directory, depending on the device and the operating system you are using, is:
- C:\Program Files\ams-OSRAM\TCS3448 EvalSw ALS\TCS3448_EvalSw_Light.exe.exe.exe (Windows 32-bit operating systems)
- C:\Program Files (x86)\ams-OSRAM\TCS3448 EvalSw ALS\TCS3448_EvalSw_Light.exe (Windows 64-bit operating systems)
The user can select a different install path during installation. When the application starts, the TCS3448 window will open on the PC and automatically connect to the hardware.
The TCS3448 GUI requires initialization files stored in the directory: - C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\ams-OSRAM\TCS3448 EvalSw ALS\
Uninstall application
To remove the software from your computer, right-click “ams-OSRAM > TCS3448 EvalSw ALS” and select Uninstall or use the Windows Control Panel.
