Juniper Networks® CTPOS Release 9.2R1 Software

About This Guide

This release notes accompany Release 9.2R1 of the CTPOS software. They describe device documentation and known problems with the software.

Release Highlights

Starting in CTPOS 9.2R1:

1. We have merged CTPOS 9.1Rx code changes to CTPOS 9.2R1 code base. [PR 1817129] 2. You can run addition virtual machine-based application on the CTP151 platform simultaneous with standard CTP operations. [PR 1565593] 3. We have added support for unity input gain version of MS-DCARD.

The unity gain version of the MS-DCARD is needed for support of a CESoPSN bundles that connects a 4WTO port with a T1/E1 port.
Without a new version of the MS-DCARD, there will be significant attenuation in the 4WTO > T1 direction (about -10dB). [PR 1569847]

Upgrade Information

You can upgrade to CTPOS 9.2R1 dual image from CTPOS 9.1R1/9.1R2/9.1R3-x/9.1R5/9.1R6-x.

Here are the possible upgrade paths:

There are two ways through which you can upgrade to 9.2R1:

1. Upgrading the dual image using CTPView 9.2R1

a. To upgrade from CTPView procedure, copy ctp_complete_9.2R1_240809.tgz in /ctp of CTPView 9.2R1.
b. Select Node Maintenance > Upgrade CTP Software.

NOTE: After you dual upgrade your CTP151 node to CTPOS 9.2R1 from CTPView, SSH to CTP Node will not work. [PR 1830027].

Workaround: Either reboot CTP151 node again or go to CTPOS CLI menu in the console and change the IP configuration to eth4.

2. Manually upgrading the dual image on CTPOS without personality transfer via the CTP shell

a. To manually upgrade the dual image on CTPOS without personality transfer via the CTP shell, upgrade CTP151 node in interactive mode by following the dual image upgrade procedure steps as described in Upgrading to Dual Image.

NOTE: Do not transfer the system identity files when you are prompted during the upgrade process, Type n when you are prompted, as shown in the following example.

If you do not transfer system identity files (config and user information), CTP will go to first boot which requires a console connection to complete. You need to have console access to do the password and ethernet configs during first boot.

If you transfer your identity files you do not need a console connection (but it is always recommended to use console access for upgrades). When upgrading from CTPOS 7.x release, only the ethernet configs will be transferred and all other configs will be lost.

Once the dual upgrade process completes, CTP151 is successfully upgraded to CTPOS 9.2R1.

Resolved Issues in CTPOS Release 9.2R1

The following issue has been resolved in CTPOS Release 9.2R1.

  • Need to enable SFP ports on CTP151. [PR 1630664]
  • Password vulnerability after firstboot config CTP local accounts logging allows with 8 characters of password length need to validate full characters in CTPOS. [PR 1802853]
  • CTPOS: Code merge from 9.1x to 10.x on CTP151. [PR 1817129]
  • SAToP interop with Cisco (matching source / destination UDP port). [PR 1820995]
  • Virtual bridges are not deleted on CTP151(KVM running) after removing it from service. [PR 1826262]
  • Disable PBS fields in CTPOS menu to prevent CTP crashes on disable on CTP151 with 9.2R1 [PR 1826274]
  • CTPOS code changes from 10.0R2 to 9.2R1. [PR 1828902]
  • NPI SE Card undetected after upgrade from 9.1R5 to 9.2R1. [PR 1829237]

Known Issues in CTPOS Release 9.2R1

The following PRs are known issues in CTPOS Release 9.2R1.

  • pkt_bert limited to 20pps on CTP151 / 9.1 [PR 1578537]
  • Need to supress autoswitch messages in the log [PR 1811202]
  • Not able to configure virtual bridge interfaces as a separate management & circuit plan after enabling eth segregation. [PR 1826245]
  • Frequent martian source packets in logs on running a bundle when KVM running on CTP151 [PR 1826257]
  • Disable KVM/VM and reboot causes ctpd crash [PR 1826302]
  • Workaround: Issue wipe_dbase before you reboot to avoid crash.

Known Limitations in CTPOS Release 9.2R1

  • If you want to downgrade the CTPOS version, ensure to give the correct card FPGA version.
  • With Write-protect enabled in CTPOS 9.2R1, NPI SE cards are not backwards compatible with FPGA acorn pkg (released in 9.1R5/9.1R6 with 0x4_1).

Node gets rebooted thrice with NPI SE card leaving SE card version unchanged in 9.1R5/9.1R6.
