2.2 Mounting Kit
2.2.1 Mounting (Optional)
The Rack Mounting Kit RMK-F is available for assembling kvm-tec media4Kconnect extenders. It includes a 19" rack tray and an aluminum faceplate.
2.3 Installing the Extender
WARNING! Read and understand all safety information before installing the product.
Units can be set up point-to-point or via a Switching System with a host computer. For switching systems, an additional 10G Network Switch and a Windows PC or tablet with the Switching Manager software are required. This allows users quick access to any required computer.
2.4 media4Kconnect in the Matrix Vario System
The Matrix Vario system allows simultaneous 4K display and downscaling to Full HD on the remote unit. The 4K stream uses 10G bandwidth, with a second Full HD stream also transmitted. Streams can be routed and shared independently, allowing one source to be split to multiple screens. Full USB control (keyboard, mouse) is maintained.
This system offers flexibility, allowing 4K to be used where needed, making solutions more affordable and adaptable compared to decisions made between 4K or Full HD during planning.
Who is Who in the Matrix Vario System:
- Local Unit/TX/CPU: media4Kconnect - DP1.2 Extender via Fiber.
- Remote Unit/RX/CON: media4Kconnect for 4K resolution, or Flexline KVM Extender over IP for Full HD resolution.
- Gateway2go APP: For remote access, home office applications, or KVM solutions without a remote extender in LAN.
2.5 Start Up
- Ensure the monitor and computer are switched on.
- If using a Network Switch, connect its power cable to an earthed wall socket.
- Connect both extender power cables to an earthed wall socket and switch on both units.
- The extenders will start an initialization process. The status LED will blink red for a few seconds and turn green upon successful connection. The monitor will then display the computer's desktop or open applications.
2.6 Replacing the SFP Module
The media4Kconnect is supplied with a multimode SFP+ module. To replace it:
- Remove the black dust protector from the SFP+ module.
- Pull the metal latch of the SFP+ module forward until it is at a right angle.
- Replace the SFP+ module with the new one and return the metal latch to its position.
Only use SFP+ modules from kvm-tec or those recommended by kvm-tec.
2.7 Removing a Fiber Cable
To remove a fiber cable: Press the latch down and slowly pull the cable out. ? [Fiber optic cable removal]
2.8 Best Practice for Windows 10
To optimize performance and prevent issues, it is recommended to disable USB Energy Savings in Windows 10. This involves navigating through Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > USB settings > USB selective suspend setting, and setting it to 'Disabled'. ? [Disable USB Energy Savings]

8. Requirements Network Switch
The switching network system requires a separate network for security reasons and cannot be integrated into an existing corporate network.
Network switch specifications:
- Full HD: 1 Gigabit Switch
- 4K: 10 Gigabit Switch
Network Requirements Matrix System UDP Version
The KVM-TEC Matrix Switching System communicates via IP with endpoints (local/CPU, remote/CON), the Switching Manager, Gateway2Go, and API. Video sharing uses the switch's IGMP function via multicast. Each endpoint joins a multicast group, and the switch maintains this group. Gateway2Go uses unicast and UDP.
Required UDP ports for transmission:
- Port Number 53248 (0xD000) to 53260 (0xD00C)
- Port Number 50000 (0xC350)
These ports must be considered for firewall configuration. A secured VPN connection is necessary for WAN connections. The system supports DHCP IP address management; static IPs are possible. Layer 3 switches are recommended.
8.1 Switches
For switch information, contact the kvm-tec sales team at sales@kvm-tec.com or support at support@kvm-tec.com.
9. Warranty
The warranty period is 24 months from the date of purchase. Warranty is void in case of external damage, improper maintenance, violation of operating instructions, or lightning damage. Please contact kvm-tec before returning the product.
9.1 Extended Warranty
A 2-year standard warranty is provided. Extended warranty options include:
- Art Nr 9003: Warranty extension to 5 years per Set.
