Wire Your Smart Switch
Follow these steps for wiring. If you are unfamiliar with basic electrical wiring, consult a qualified electrician.
Before You Start:
1. Prepare Basic Wiring Knowledge:
- Ground: Typically green or copper wire.
- Neutral: Typically white wire; not connected to the old switch.
- Line: Typically black wire; connected to the old switch.
- Load: Typically black wire; connected to the old switch.
Note: If unsure, consult a qualified electrician.
2. Prepare Your Tools:
You will need a Phillips screwdriver, a slotted screwdriver, pliers, wire strippers, and a voltage detector.
3. Check Wi-Fi Strength:
Ensure the switch location has a strong Wi-Fi signal.
Step 1. Turn Off Power and Remove the Wallplate
Turn off the circuit breaker. Remove the old wallplate and label the wires.
CAUTION: Risk of Electric Shocks - High Voltage. Disconnect power supply at the circuit breaker before servicing.
Step 2. Disconnect wires from the old switch
Gently pull the old switch out and disconnect its wires.
Step 3. Connect the Wires
Use the provided labels and wire nuts to connect the wires to the smart switch according to the diagram. Ground and Neutral lines can be distinguished by their colors.
Note: It is not necessary to distinguish between Line and Load wires.
The wiring diagram shows connections for Ground, Neutral, and Line/Load wires to the smart switch and into the wall box.
Step 4. Install Your Smart Switch
Gently fold all wires back into the wall box. Align the switch with the mounting holes and secure it with screws.
Step 5. Attach the Wallplate and Turn on Power
Attach the wallplate and turn on the circuit breaker. Wiring is now complete.

Set Up Your Smart Device via Matter
This is a Matter-certified device that can be integrated into various Matter ecosystems like Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit for easy control. Setup processes and user experiences are expected to improve over time.
Before You Start:
- Get a Matter Controller: A Matter controller (e.g., Apple TV, HomePod) is required to connect and manage Matter devices. Refer to TP-Link's FAQ for details: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/3520/.
- Reset Your Device: Ensure the device is reset. For most devices, press and hold the 'Reset' button for 10 seconds.
- Connect to Wi-Fi: Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your Matter controller (preferably the 2.4 GHz network).
- Access Matter Setup Mode: This mode is active for 15 minutes after the device is powered on. Power cycle the device to re-enter setup mode.
- Locate Matter Setup Code: Find the QR code or numeric code on the device or packaging.
- Matter Code Usage: The original Matter code is for one-time setup per app. For multi-app setup, generate a new code from the first app used.
How to Set Up:
Note: Setup processes may vary between different apps.
- Turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
- Open your smart home app and scan the Matter QR code or input the numeric code.
- Connect your device to the same network as your controller.
- Follow the app's instructions to complete the setup.
Failed to Set Up?
Troubleshooting common setup issues:
- Update Firmware: Ensure your Matter hub and smart home app firmware are up-to-date.
- Restart Devices: Power cycle your device, controller, and smartphone. Clear the smart home app's cache.
- Check IPv6: Verify that IPv6 is enabled on your router. See TP-Link FAQ for guidance: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1525/.
- Enable Setup Mode: Restart the device to re-enter setup mode, as Bluetooth turns off after 15 minutes.
- Matter Code Reusability: The original Matter code is for one-time setup per app. Generate new codes for subsequent setups in different apps.
- Stay on Code-Generating Page: Do not close the pairing code-generating page during multi-admin setup. If closed accidentally, try reopening it or restarting the device to generate a new code.
- Factory Reset: Perform a factory reset (press and hold 'Reset' for 10 seconds).
- Existing Ecosystem: If the device is already in another ecosystem, obtain a new setup code for pairing. Refer to the FAQ on integrating devices into other ecosystems.
If problems persist, try a factory reset or use a different smartphone for configuration.
