Connecting Pioneer DJ Multiplayers

Supported Models: CDJ-3000, CDJ-2000NXS2, CDJ-TOUR1, XDJ-1000MK2, XDJ-700

Introduction

The CDJ-3000, CDJ-2000NXS2, CDJ-TOUR1, XDJ-1000MK2, and XDJ-700 are equipped with an interface that enables high-precision control for TRAKTOR series software, manufactured by Native Instruments. Connecting these products to the TRAKTOR series provides USB-HID control without requiring a control disc. These products can also function as audio output devices for the TRAKTOR series. This guide explains the basic operations for connecting these products to the TRAKTOR series. For more detailed operation methods, refer to the instruction manuals provided with the TRAKTOR series.

Preparations

  • To connect to the TRAKTOR series, update the firmware of your multiplayer to the latest version. Please visit the Pioneer DJ support page (pioneerdj.com/support/) for details on firmware upgrades.
  • Update the TRAKTOR series software to the latest version. Refer to the Native Instruments website (native-instruments.com/) for system requirements.
  • One USB cable is required per multiplayer to connect your PC/Mac.
  • When using a multiplayer as an audio output device for the TRAKTOR series, the following are required:
    • Windows: Installation of the driver software.
    • macOS: Installation of the macOS tool.
  • For details, please refer to page 5 of this guide.

Connection Procedures

Connect the multiplayer (or multiplayers, if more than one are to be connected) to your PC/Mac using a USB cable per multiplayer. Up to 4 multiplayers can be connected for the TRAKTOR series.

Diagram Description: The connection diagram illustrates a setup with a computer, a DJ mixer, and two multiplayers. The computer is connected to each multiplayer via a USB cable for control. The computer is also connected to the DJ mixer via a USB cable. Audio cables connect each multiplayer to the DJ mixer for audio output.

Using the Multiplayers as TRAKTOR Series Controllers

Switch on all units after connections are made. Follow the instructions below to set up each multiplayer:

CDJ-3000:

Select [CONTROL MODE (CDJ)]. Press the rotary selector to confirm. The multiplayer is now recognized by the TRAKTOR series.

CDJ-2000NXS2/CDJ-TOUR1:

Press the [LINK] button on the multiplayer, then select [USB MIDI] for the [CONTROL MODE]. Press the rotary selector to confirm. The multiplayer is now recognized by the TRAKTOR series.

General Setup for Control:

Turn the rotary selector to choose the deck to control (A to D). Press the rotary selector to confirm. The multiplayer can now control the TRAKTOR series.

Using the Multiplayers as TRAKTOR Series Audio Devices

To use the multiplayers as TRAKTOR series audio output devices, follow the instructions below to set up your PC/Mac and the TRAKTOR series.

For Windows:

  1. Install the driver software on your PC. Download the latest version from the Pioneer DJ support page (pioneerdj.com/support/).
  2. Open TRAKTOR series software. Navigate to [File] -> [Audio Setup] and select [Pioneer CDJXDJ ASIO] for your [Audio Device].
  3. The multiplayer should be automatically selected as the audio output device. If not, navigate to [File] -> [Audio Setup] -> [Output Routing] and select it manually.

For macOS:

To use multiple multiplayers as audio devices on macOS, you do not need to install separate driver software. Instead, you will set up an aggregated device using the provided macOS tool, CDJ/XDJ Aggregator, which simplifies this process.

Download the CDJ/XDJ Aggregator from the "Software & firmware updates" section on the Pioneer DJ support page (pioneerdj.com/support/). If the downloaded file is a zip archive, double-click it to extract its contents.

Follow these steps for TRAKTOR series setup:

  1. Connect the multiplayer (or multiplayers) to your Mac using a USB cable per multiplayer.
  2. Double-click the [CDJ/XDJ_Aggregator] application to create an aggregated device named [Pioneer CDJ/XDJ].
  3. Open TRAKTOR series software. Navigate to [File] -> [Audio Setup] and select the [Pioneer CDJ/XDJ] device created in the previous step.
  4. The multiplayer should be automatically selected as an audio output device. If not, navigate to [File] -> [Audio Setup] -> [Output Routing] and select it manually.
