Product Usage Instructions

Charging the Reader:

  1. To charge the PowerScan PBT9600 RFID reader, place it on the BC9600 base charger ensuring proper alignment. Do not insert any objects between the reader and the charger. Connect the charger to a power source using the provided cable.

Powering On/Off:

  1. To power on the reader, press and hold the power button until the device vibrates or lights up. To power off, repeat the same process.

Scanning Barcodes:

  1. Aim the reader at the barcode to be scanned and press the scan button. Ensure proper alignment and distance for accurate scanning.

Regulatory Compliance:

  1. Ensure that the device is used in compliance with local regulations. Any modifications not approved by Datalogic may void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.

  • Q: How do I know when the reader is fully charged?
    • A: The reader may indicate a full charge through LED lights or a notification on the display, depending on the model.

PM9600 4-key and 16-key Models

The PM9600 series offers two display options: 4 configurable keys and a full 16-key keyboard. This increases interaction between the host and the user allowing a two-way
exchange of information for more reliable and effective communications.

The table below illustrates the key functions of the two models.

SETUP’

UNPACKING
Check carefully to ensure the reader and any cables or accessories ordered are present
and undamaged. If any damage occurred during shipment, contact “Technical Support”
on page xvii.
SETTING UP THE POWERSCAN™ PD9600 READER
Follow the steps below to connect and get your reader up and communicating with its
host.
1. Connect the Cable to the reader and the Host (see page 7).
2. Configure the Interface (see page 39).
3. Configure the Reader starting page 44 (optional, as needed).
Connect the PowerScan™ by plugging directly into the host device as shown. The power
can also be supplied through an external power supply via the Interface Cable supplied
with a power jack.

The reader kit you ordered to match your interface should provide a compatible cable
for your installation. If this is not so, contact “Technical Support” on page xvii.
Follow the steps below to connect the cable to the reader.

CHARGING THE BATTERIES

Once the BC9600 is powered, you can charge the reader’s batteries. Place the PowerScan™ PM/PBT9600 into the BC9600 base station. The LEDs on the base station/battery
charger turn green and flash orange/green when recharging begins.
The battery is completely charged when the Reader LED on the base station/battery
charger turns green.
The battery can also be charged using the Multi Battery Charger accessory

Aiming System
The aiming system of this device meets the Class 2 requirements for laser safety. The laser information is located on the scanner label. The laser scanner conforms to the applicable requirements of both CDRH 21 CFR 1040 and EN60825-1 at the date of manufacture. The laser light is visible to the human eye and is emitted from the output window.

ENGLISH The following information is provided to comply with the rules imposed by international authorities and refers to the correct use of your terminal. STANDARD LASER SAFETY REGULATIONS This product conforms to the applicable requirements of both CDRH 21 CFR 1040 and EN 60825-1 at the date of manufacture. For installation, use and maintenance, it is not necessary to open the device.
WARNING: Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in exposure to hazardous visible laser light.
The product utilizes a low-power laser diode. Although staring directly at the laser beam momentarily causes no known biological damage, avoid staring at the beam as one would with any very strong light source, such as the sun. Avoid allowing the laser beam to hit the eye of an observer, even through reflective surfaces such as mirrors, etc.
