- MIX: Controls the blend between the input signal and effect.
- BALANCE: Adjusts the volume of the 3 voices and shifts their relative volumes.
- FEEDBACK: Sets the number of echoes.
- FILTER: Adjusts a dual high-pass/low-pass filter.
B. Modulation:
- SYNCED / OFF / FREE: Engages modulation synced to delay time or moves freely.
- VIB / TREM / FREQ: Selects modulation type (Vibrato, Tremolo, Frequency Shifting).
C. Sequence:
- RUN / OFF / ENV: Engages a sequencer that moves between voices.

INTRODUCTION
REVERSE MODE C IS A FANTASTICAL MIX OF MOTION AND SPACE
- It’s an echo composed of multiple distinct voices that move in different directions: forward, backwards, and up – that you can blend, isolate, and sequence, all glued together by some very colourful modulation.
- It was made in collaboration with Empress Effects and is a celebration of a very special mode found on the Empress Superdelay, released in 2008.
Usage Instructions
A) KNOBS
TIME
- Sets the master delay time.
- Up to 4.19 seconds.
OFFSET
- Separates the delay times of the 3 voices, adjusting their ratios to create different patterns and rhythmic relationships.
MIX
- Controls the blend between your input signal and the effect.
BALANCE
- Adjusts the volume of the 3 voices. The right half of the knob shifts their relative volumes for different mixes, and the left half of the knob lets you isolate and blend between the voices.
FEEDBACK
- Sets the number of echoes.
FILTER
- Adjusts a dual high-pass/low-pass filter; rotate clockwise to remove low frequencies, or counter-clockwise to remove highs.
B MODULATION
SYNCED / OFF / FREE
- Engages the modulation, either synced to the delay time or moving freely.
VIB / TREM / FREQ
- Selects the modulation type. Each one has an alternate, engaged via the MOD TYPE dip switch.
Vibrat
- Chorus
Tremolo (square)
- Tremolo (ramp down)
Frequency shifting (up)
- Frequency shifting (down)
HIDDEN OPTIONS
- DEPTH
- Sets the intensity of the modulation.
- RATE
- Sets the speed of the modulation.
C) SEQUENCE
RUN / OFF / ENV
- Engages a sequencer that moves between the different voices. The sequencer can either run continuously – synced to the delay time – or be manually triggered by your input signal.
- Activating the sequencer introduces a bonus 4th voice to balance things out: reverse octave down.
HIDDEN OPTIONS
REST / SKIP
- The sequencer is interactive with the BALANCE knob. This hidden option gives you two different choices for how the sequencer treats muted voices:
- REST – Leaves moments of silence in the sequence.
- SKIP – Removes muted voices from the sequence.
D BYPASS / SAMPLE RATE
- Tap to engage the pedal. Hold to cut the sample rate in half, for longer delay times and a mild lo-fi quality.
E) TAP / LOOP
- Tap to adjust the delay time. Hold to capture and repeat the current moment infinitely.
F) CUSTOMIZE
- You can use Reverse Mode C’s various dip switches to tune the behaviour to your liking:
SWAP
- Let’s you make DEPTH and RATE surface-level controls instead of hidden options – useful if you want more immediate control over the modulation. (When engaged, OFFSET and BALANCE will become the hidden options.)
MISO
- Mono In, Stereo Out. Splits a mono input signal into a stereo output.
SPREAD
- Hard pans the forward and reverse voices to create a spacious stereo image.
TRAILS
- Echoes will fade out naturally when the pedal is bypassed, instead of abruptly disappearing.
LATCH
- Changes the hold function for each footswitch from momentary to latching, so that it will remain engaged until the footswitch is held again.
FEED TYPE
- Sets whether the octave effect is inside or outside of the feedback loop. This lets you choose between a steady amount of pitch shifting or echoes that continuously ascend.
FADE TYPE
- Controls how the sequencer moves from one step to the next – immediately, or in a smooth, gradual way.
MOD TYPE
- Let’s you engage a secondary flavour of modulation for each type (see modulation description for the specifics).
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I engage the sequencer in the C Sequence section?
You can engage the sequencer by selecting RUN mode. It will move between the different voices synced to the delay time or be manually triggered by your input signal.
What does the DEPTH control under HIDDEN OPTIONS in the Modulation section do?
The DEPTH control sets the intensity of the modulation effect, allowing you to adjust how pronounced the modulation is in your sound.
