Chase Bliss Reverse Mode C: Multidirectional Delay
The Reverse Mode C is an echo effect featuring multiple distinct voices that can move forward, backward, and up. These voices can be blended, isolated, and sequenced, with modulation applied for a rich sound. This pedal is a collaboration with Empress Effects, inspired by a mode from the Empress Superdelay released in 2008.
Knobs
TIME: Sets the master delay time, up to 4.19 seconds.
OFFSET: Separates the delay times of the 3 voices, adjusting their ratios to create different patterns and rhythmic relationships.
MIX: Controls the blend between the input signal and the effect.
BALANCE: Adjusts the volume of the 3 voices. The right half shifts relative volumes for different mixes, while the left half isolates and blends between voices.
FEEDBACK: Sets the number of echoes.
FILTER: Adjusts a dual high-pass/low-pass filter. Rotating clockwise removes low frequencies; counter-clockwise removes highs.
Modulation
SYNCED/OFF/FREE: Engages modulation, synced to delay time or moving freely.
VIB/TREM/FREQ: Selects the modulation type. Each type has an alternate setting via the MOD TYPE dip switch.
- Vibrato
- Chorus
- Tremolo (square)
- Tremolo (ramp down)
- Frequency shifting (up)
- Frequency shifting (down)
Hidden Options:
DEPTH: Sets the intensity of the modulation.
RATE: Sets the speed of the modulation.
Customization (Dip Switches)
SWAP: Makes DEPTH and RATE surface-level controls instead of hidden options. When engaged, OFFSET and BALANCE become hidden options.
MISO: Mono In, Stereo Out. Splits a mono input signal into a stereo output.
SPREAD: Hard pans the forward and reverse voices for a spacious stereo image.
TRAILS: Echoes fade out naturally when the pedal is bypassed, instead of abruptly disappearing.
LATCH: Changes the hold function for each footswitch from momentary to latching. The function remains engaged until the footswitch is pressed again.
FEED TYPE: Sets whether the octave effect is inside or outside the feedback loop, allowing for a steady amount of pitch shifting or continuously ascending echoes.
FADE TYPE: Controls how the sequencer moves between steps: immediately or gradually.
MOD TYPE: Engages a secondary modulation flavor for each type.
Sequence
RUN/OFF/ENV: Engages a sequencer that moves between voices. It can run continuously (synced to delay time) or be manually triggered by the input signal. Activating the sequencer adds a bonus 4th voice: reverse octave down.
Hidden Options:
REST/SKIP: This option, controlled by the BALANCE knob, determines how the sequencer handles muted voices: REST leaves silence; SKIP removes muted voices.
Bypass / Sample Rate
Tap to engage the pedal. Hold to cut the sample rate in half, resulting in longer delay times and a mild lo-fi quality.
Tap / Loop
Tap to adjust the delay time. Hold to capture and repeat the current moment infinitely.
