- Battery Installation: Unscrew the battery compartment cap at the top of the meter. Insert three (3) LR44 button batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Replace the cap securely.
- Protective Cap Removal: Gently remove the protective cap from the bottom of the meter to expose the probes.
- Initial Rinse: Before first use and after each use, rinse the probes with distilled water to remove any residue.
Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for general operation and specific measurements.
General Measurement Procedure
- Turn On: Press the ON/OFF button to power on the device.
- Submerge Probe: Submerge the probe section of the meter into the water sample to be tested. Ensure the probes are fully immersed.
- Wait for Stable Reading: Allow a few seconds for the reading on the HD-LCD backlight display to stabilize.
- Interpret Reading: Read the displayed value. Refer to the specific parameter sections below for ideal ranges and interpretation.
- Clean and Store: After use, rinse the probe with distilled water, gently wipe dry, and replace the protective cap.
Switching Measurement Modes
Press the MODE/CAL button to cycle through the different measurement modes: pH, Free Chlorine (FAC), Salinity (ppm, ppt, %), TDS, EC, ORP, and Temperature (°C/°F).
Temperature Measurement
The meter automatically compensates for temperature. To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F), press and hold the Hold/Temp button.
Hold Function
During measurement, press the Hold/Temp button briefly to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold and resume live readings.
pH Measurement
The pH function measures the acidity or alkalinity of water. Ideal pH for swimming pools is typically between 7.2 and 7.8.

Free Chlorine (FAC) Measurement
This function measures the level of active chlorine in water. The ideal range for free chlorine in pools is 1-3 ppm.

Salinity Measurement
The meter can measure salinity in ppm, ppt, or percentage. For saltwater pools, the ideal salinity range is typically 2700-3400 ppm. For freshwater fish, salinity should be ≤500 ppm, and for saltwater fish, topping off water should be ≤50 ppm.

ORP Measurement
ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential) indicates the water's ability to break down contaminants. For pools and spas, an effective ORP range is 650-750 mV.

Calibration
Regular calibration ensures the accuracy of your meter. pH calibration is crucial for reliable readings. The meter comes with three pH calibration powders.
- Prepare calibration solutions using the provided powders and distilled water according to their instructions. Typically, pH 4.00, pH 7.00, and pH 10.01 solutions are used.
- Turn on the meter and select the pH mode.
- Submerge the probe into the first calibration solution (e.g., pH 7.00).
- Once the reading stabilizes, press and hold the MODE/CAL button for 5 seconds. The display will show "CAL" and the value (e.g., 7.00) will flash.
- The meter will automatically recognize the solution and calibrate. Repeat this process for other pH calibration solutions (e.g., pH 4.00 and pH 10.01).
- After calibration, rinse the probe with distilled water.

Maintenance
Proper maintenance extends the life and accuracy of your GIDIGI GX-7B meter.
Cleaning the Probe
- Always rinse the probe thoroughly with distilled water after each use.
- Do not use tap water for rinsing as it may contain minerals that can affect the probe.
- Gently wipe the probe with a clean, soft cloth. Avoid abrasive materials.
Storage
- Ensure the protective cap is securely placed over the probe when not in use.
- Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- If storing for an extended period, ensure the probe remains moist. Some users prefer to store pH probes in a small amount of pH storage solution or saturated KCl solution (not distilled water).
Battery Replacement
When the battery indicator on the display shows low power, replace the LR44 button batteries as described in the Setup section.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your GIDIGI GX-7B meter, try the following solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Inaccurate or erratic readings | Uncalibrated meter, dirty probe, damaged probe, expired calibration solutions. | Perform a full calibration. Clean the probe thoroughly. Ensure calibration solutions are fresh. If issues persist, the probe may need replacement. |
| Meter does not turn on | Dead batteries, incorrect battery installation. | Replace batteries with new LR44 button cells. Check battery polarity. |
| Display is dim or unreadable | Low battery. | Replace batteries. |
| Slow response time | Dirty probe, dry probe. | Clean the probe. Ensure the probe is properly hydrated (if applicable for pH probes). |
