This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation, installation, and maintenance of your Generic AQUA Pool Pump and Filter Combo, Model CLP5503A. This system is designed for small swimming pools or above-ground pools. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use to ensure proper function and longevity of the product.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: Electrical shock hazard. Always disconnect power before servicing.
- Ensure the power supply matches the specifications of the pump (220V ~ / 50Hz).
- Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician and in accordance with all local electrical codes.
- Do not operate the pump if the power cord or plug is damaged.
- Keep children away from the pump and filter system during operation.
- Never run the pump dry. Ensure the pump is primed with water before starting.
- The unit is rated IPX5 for protection against water jets, but it should not be submerged.
3. Package Contents
Verify that all components are present and undamaged upon unpacking:
- 1 x 0.55kw Pool Pump with integrated 24-hour timer
- 1 x Sand Filter Tank
- Instruction Manual (this document)
Note: 25kg of pool grade sand media is required for the sand filter and is not supplied with this package.
4. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the performance and safety of your pool system.
- Placement: Position the pump and filter combo on a firm, level surface, as close to the pool as possible to minimize friction loss from plumbing. Ensure adequate ventilation and protection from direct weather exposure.
- Sand Media Installation:
- Remove the top lid of the sand filter tank.
- Carefully pour 25kg of pool grade sand media into the tank. Ensure the standpipe is centered during this process.
- Replace the lid and secure it tightly.
- Plumbing Connections:
- Connect the pool skimmer/main drain line to the pump's inlet (suction) port.
- Connect the pump's outlet (discharge) port to the filter's inlet.
- Connect the filter's outlet to the pool return line.
- All connections use 40mm (1 1/2") BSP thread. Use appropriate sealants (e.g., PTFE tape) to ensure watertight connections.
- Electrical Connection: Connect the pump to a grounded 220V ~ / 50Hz power outlet. Ensure the circuit is protected by a Residual Current Device (RCD) for safety.
- Priming the Pump: Before starting, ensure the pump basket is full of water. Open all necessary valves to allow water to flow from the pool to the pump.

5. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your pool pump and filter system.
- Starting the Pump:
- Ensure the pump is primed (filled with water) and all valves are open.
- Plug in the pump or switch on the dedicated power supply.
- The pump will begin to circulate water. Check for leaks.
- Using the 24-Hour Timer Function:
- The pump features an integrated 24-hour timer. Refer to the control panel on the pump motor for timer settings.
- Typically, you can set specific ON/OFF times for daily operation. Consult the markings on the timer dial or digital display for precise adjustment.
- Set the timer to ensure adequate filtration for your pool size, usually 8-12 hours per day.
- Filter Operation: The sand filter will remove debris from the pool water. Monitor the pressure gauge on the filter. An increase in pressure indicates the filter needs cleaning (backwashing).

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your pool system.
- Backwashing the Sand Filter: When the pressure gauge reads 8-10 PSI above its clean operating pressure, it's time to backwash.
- Pump Basket Cleaning: Periodically check and clean the pump's strainer basket to remove leaves and debris. Ensure the pump is OFF and disconnected from power before opening the basket lid.
- Winterization: In colder climates, drain all water from the pump and filter to prevent freezing damage. Store the pump in a dry, protected area.
- General Inspection: Regularly inspect all plumbing connections for leaks and ensure the pump is securely mounted.
7. Troubleshooting
Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not start | No power; tripped breaker; faulty wiring; motor issue | Check power supply, circuit breaker, and connections. Consult an electrician if necessary. |
| Low water flow | Clogged pump basket; dirty filter; air leak in suction line; low water level in pool | Clean pump basket. Backwash filter. Check for air leaks. Ensure adequate pool water level. |
| Pump making loud noise | Pump running dry (cavitation); foreign object in impeller; worn bearings | Prime pump. Turn off and inspect impeller for debris. Contact service if bearings are suspected. |
| Water leaking from pump/filter | Loose connections; damaged O-rings/gaskets; cracked housing | Tighten connections. Inspect and replace O-rings/gaskets. Contact seller for cracked housing. |
