4. Setup Guide

4.1 Hardware Installation

Follow these steps to install the Command Core X16 into your PC system:

  1. Connect SATA Power: Connect the provided S-ATA Power Cable from your PC power supply to the 'Power' input on the Command Core X16. Ensure your power supply can provide sufficient current on the 5V and 12V rails, especially if other components are heavily loaded.
  2. Connect USB Data: Connect the provided USB 2.0 to Motherboard 9-pin Cable from the 'USB' input on the Command Core X16 to an available 9-pin USB 2.0 header on your motherboard. This connection enables software control.
  3. Connect Motherboard Fan Header (Optional): For intelligent, temperature-based fan speed control, connect the 4-pin female to female fan extension cable from the Command Core X16 to your motherboard's CPU_Fan header. This allows the controller to synchronize fan speeds with motherboard signals.
  4. Connect ARGB Devices: Connect your 5V 3-pin ARGB devices (e.g., fans, LED strips) to the 'A1' through 'A8' ports on the Command Core X16. Each ARGB channel supports up to 256 LEDs.
  5. Connect PWM Fans: Connect your 12V 4-pin PWM fans to the 'F1' through 'F8' ports on the Command Core X16. Note that fan speed monitoring is only supported for a single fan connected to port 'F1' due to motherboard limitations.

5. Operation

5.1 ARGB Lighting Control

The Command Core X16 provides 8 independent channels for 5V 3-pin ARGB devices. Each channel allows for individual lighting control, supporting up to 256 LEDs. This enables granular customization of lighting patterns, gradients, and animations across your PC components.

5.2 PWM Fan Control

The controller features 8 channels for 12V 4-pin PWM fans. These channels allow for synchronous fan speed regulation. When connected to the motherboard's CPU_Fan header, the controller can intelligently adjust fan speeds based on temperature signals, optimizing cooling performance and noise levels. Fan speed monitoring is available for the fan connected to port F1.

5.3 Software Compatibility

The Airgoo Command Core X16 is compatible with popular lighting control software:

  • SignalRGB: This software allows for synchronized lighting effects across games, music, and applications. It offers extensive customization options for dynamic patterns and hardware-reactive animations. The controller expands motherboard header capabilities, allowing for unified control of multi-brand lighting setups.
  • OpenRGB: This open-source software provides broad cross-platform compatibility, supporting Windows, Linux, and macOS. It allows users to control RGB lighting from various manufacturers through a single interface.

6. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Airgoo Command Core X16, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the controller and its connections using a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents. Ensure the PC is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
  • Connection Check: Regularly inspect all cable connections (SATA power, USB, ARGB, PWM) to ensure they are secure and free from damage. Loose connections can lead to intermittent functionality.
  • Environment: Operate the controller in a well-ventilated PC case to prevent overheating. Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures or humidity.
  • Safety: The controller includes an auto-resetting fuse to protect against overloads and short circuits. If you experience power-related issues, ensure all connected devices are within the specified power limits.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Command Core X16, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power/Lights:
    • Ensure the SATA power cable is securely connected to both the controller and the PC power supply.
    • Verify that your PC power supply is functioning correctly.
    • Check if the ARGB devices are correctly plugged into the controller's ARGB ports (A1-A8) and are 5V 3-pin compatible.
  • Fans Not Spinning/Controlling:
    • Confirm that PWM fans are correctly connected to the controller's fan ports (F1-F8).
    • Ensure the controller is connected to the motherboard's CPU_Fan header for intelligent speed control.
    • Check fan settings within your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI or operating system software.
  • Software Not Detecting Controller:
    • Verify that the USB 2.0 cable is securely connected between the controller and the motherboard's 9-pin USB header.
    • Ensure the necessary drivers or software (SignalRGB, OpenRGB) are installed and up to date.
    • Try connecting the USB cable to a different motherboard USB 2.0 header.
  • Incorrect Lighting Effects:
    • Confirm that your ARGB devices are compatible with the controller's 5V 3-pin standard.
    • Check the settings within your chosen lighting control software (SignalRGB/OpenRGB) to ensure the correct effects are selected and applied to the appropriate channels.
