3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the timer.
  2. Open the compartment cover.
  3. Insert two 1.5V AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3.2 Connecting the Timer

The timer is designed for easy connection to standard garden faucets and irrigation systems.

  1. Ensure the faucet is turned off.
  2. Attach the timer's inlet connector (top) to your garden faucet. Hand-tighten until secure. Do not overtighten.
  3. If necessary, use the appropriate adapter (1'', 3/4'', or 1/2'') to match your faucet size.
  4. Connect your garden hose or irrigation system to the timer's outlet connector (bottom).
  5. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.

4. Operating Instructions

The HCT-322 features an intuitive digital display and simple controls for programming your watering schedule.

4.1 Button Functions

  • - (Minus): Decreases values or navigates backward.
  • + DELAY (Plus/Delay): Increases values or activates the rain delay function.
  • ESC OFF (Escape/Off): Exits current setting mode or turns off watering.
  • OK: Confirms selection or enters setting mode.

4.2 Setting Current Time (NOW)

  1. Press OK to enter the setting mode. The 'NOW' time will flash.
  2. Use - or + DELAY to adjust the hour. Press OK to confirm.
  3. Use - or + DELAY to adjust the minute. Press OK to confirm.

4.3 Setting Watering Schedule

The timer allows you to set a specific start time, duration, and frequency for your watering cycles.

  1. Set Start Time (START TIME):
    a. From the main screen, press OK until 'START TIME' flashes.
    b. Use - or + DELAY to set the desired hour and minute for watering to begin. Press OK after each adjustment.
  2. Set Watering Duration (HOW LONG):
    a. Press OK until 'HOW LONG' flashes.
    b. Use - or + DELAY to set the watering duration in minutes or hours. Press OK to confirm.
  3. Set Watering Frequency (HOW OFTEN):
    a. Press OK until 'HOW OFTEN' flashes.
    b. Use - or + DELAY to set how often the watering cycle repeats (e.g., every 1 day, every 2 days, etc.). Press OK to confirm.

4.4 Rain Delay Function

The rain delay function allows you to pause your watering schedule for a set period, preventing overwatering during rainy weather.

  1. From the main screen, press and hold the + DELAY button.
  2. The 'DELAY' icon will appear, and you can use - or + DELAY to select the delay duration (e.g., 24 hours, 48 hours).
  3. Press OK to confirm the rain delay. The timer will resume its schedule after the delay period ends.

4.5 Manual Watering

To water manually outside of the programmed schedule:

  1. Press the OK button briefly.
  2. Use - or + DELAY to set the desired manual watering duration.
  3. Press OK to start manual watering. The water will flow for the set duration and then stop automatically.
  4. To stop manual watering early, press ESC OFF.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator on the display shows low power, replace the batteries promptly to ensure continuous operation. Use two new 1.5V AA alkaline batteries.

5.2 Cleaning

Periodically clean the exterior of the timer with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the unit in water.

5.3 Winter Storage

Before the first frost, disconnect the timer from the faucet and hose. Remove the batteries. Store the timer indoors in a dry, frost-free location to prevent damage from freezing water.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 No Water Flow

  • Check Faucet: Ensure the garden faucet is fully open.
  • Check Batteries: Verify batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
  • Check Program: Ensure a watering schedule is programmed and the start time has been reached.
  • Check Rain Delay: Confirm that the rain delay function is not active.

6.2 Display is Blank or Faint

  • Tighten Connections: Ensure all threaded connections are hand-tight.
