Figure 1.2: Detailed dimensions of the fan unit and individual 70mm fans. The unit measures 250mm (9.84 inches) in length, 88mm (3.46 inches) in height, and 20mm (0.78 inches) in depth. Each fan is 70mm (2.75 inches) square with a 15mm (0.59 inches) thickness.
2. Setup Instructions
2.1 Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully unpack the fan unit and its accessories. Verify that all components listed in the accessory list are present and undamaged.

Figure 2.1: Included accessories: one temperature sensor and four #10-32 screws (5/16 inch).
2.2 Power Supply Connection
The fan unit requires a DC 12V / 2A power supply, which is not included with the product. Ensure you use a compatible power adapter with an outer diameter of 5.5mm and an inner diameter of 2.1-2.5mm. Connect the power supply to the 'Power' port on the rear panel of the unit.

2.3 NTC Temperature Sensor Placement
Connect the provided NTC temperature sensor to the designated port on the rear panel. For accurate temperature feedback, place the probe close to the primary heat source within your rack or equipment cabinet. This ensures the fan unit can effectively monitor and respond to temperature changes.

2.4 Rack Mounting
Mount the 2U fan unit into your 10-inch server rack using the provided #10-32 screws. Ensure the unit is securely fastened to prevent vibration and maintain proper airflow.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Control Panel and Display
The fan unit features a 0.96-inch OLED display and four control buttons: On/Off, Menu, and +/-. These allow you to configure and monitor the unit's operation.

3.2 Power On/Off and Factory Reset
- Power On: Short press the 'On/Off' button (less than 0.8 seconds).
- Power Off / Restore Factory Settings: Long press the 'On/Off' button (more than 0.8 seconds).
3.3 Fan Control Modes
The unit supports two primary fan control modes:
- Automatic Mode: Fan speeds adjust dynamically based on the temperature detected by the NTC sensor. This mode ensures efficient cooling when needed and energy savings when temperatures are low.
- Manual Mode: Allows you to set a fixed fan speed level (0-10) regardless of the temperature.
Use the 'Menu' button to switch between parameter settings and operating modes. Use the '+/-' buttons to adjust fan speed levels in Manual mode or temperature threshold values in Automatic mode.

3.4 Fan Operation Logic (Automatic Mode)
The system's fan operation logic in Automatic mode is as follows:
- Below Close Temp: Fans stop.
- Between Close Temp and Warn Temp: Fan speed is automatically regulated, increasing as the temperature rises.
- Above Warn Temp: Fans run at maximum speed, and the display will flash to indicate an alarm condition.

4. Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your GeeekPi Rack Mount Fan Unit, regular maintenance is recommended:
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the fan grilles and blades to prevent dust accumulation, which can impede airflow and reduce cooling efficiency. Use a soft brush or compressed air. Ensure the unit is powered off before cleaning.
- Cable Inspection: Check all cable connections, including the power supply and NTC sensor, for secure fit and any signs of wear or damage.
- Environmental Conditions: Ensure the operating environment is within recommended temperature and humidity ranges to prevent premature component failure.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your fan unit, refer to the following troubleshooting guide:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Fan unit does not power on | No power supply connected or incompatible power supply. | Ensure a DC 12V / 2A power supply is correctly connected. Verify power outlet functionality. |
| Fans not spinning in Automatic mode | Temperature is below the 'Close Temp' threshold. | This is normal operation. If cooling is desired at lower temperatures, switch to Manual mode or adjust 'Close Temp' settings. |
| Fans running at maximum speed constantly | Temperature is above the 'Warn Temp' threshold. | Check for excessive heat sources in the rack. Ensure proper ventilation. Verify NTC sensor placement. |
| Inaccurate temperature readings | NTC sensor improperly placed or disconnected. | Ensure the NTC sensor is securely connected and positioned near the main heat source. |
| Fans blowing air in the wrong direction | Fans are installed to pull air rather than push, or vice-versa, depending on desired airflow. | The fans can be reversed if needed. Consult the product's internal design for fan orientation adjustment. |
