AKM Spotless Water System Instruction Manual

Model: akmjs-BP15TC

Introduction

The AKM Spotless Water System (Model akmjs-BP15TC) is designed to provide deionized (DI) water for various cleaning applications, primarily for washing vehicles, RVs, bikes, and boats. This system effectively removes minerals from tap water, preventing water spots and streaks upon drying. It comes pre-filled with 15 liters of DI resin and features a bypass valve for versatile operation. This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient setup, operation, and maintenance of your AKM Spotless Water System.

Product Overview and Components

The AKM Spotless Water System is a portable unit designed for ease of use and effective water deionization. Understanding its components is crucial for proper operation.

Key items include the fiberglass tank with DI resin, a hand cart for portability, various 3/4" garden hose quick connectors, PTFE sealing tape, a plastic cover, a user manual, and a TDS meter for measuring water purity.

Main Components:

  • Fiberglass Tank: Contains the 15L mixed bed deionization (DI) resin.
  • Water Valve with Bypass: Allows selection between filtered (DI) water and unfiltered (tap) water.
  • Riser Tube: Internal component for water flow through the resin.
  • Neoprene Cover: Protects the fiberglass tank.
  • Hand Cart: For easy transportation of the system.
  • 3/4" Garden Hose Quick Connectors: For connecting to standard garden hoses.
  • PTFE Sealing Tape: For ensuring watertight connections.
  • TDS Meter: Measures Total Dissolved Solids (PPM) to indicate water purity and resin effectiveness.

Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to set up your AKM Spotless Water System for the first time.

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all items from the packaging. Verify that all components listed in the "Product Overview" section are present.
  2. Assemble Hand Cart: Attach the fiberglass tank to the provided hand cart according to the assembly instructions in the included manual. Ensure it is securely fastened for stability and portability.
  3. Connect Inlet Hose: Apply PTFE sealing tape to the threads of your garden hose and connect it to the "INLET" port of the AKM Spotless Water System. Ensure the connection is tight to prevent leaks.
  4. Connect Outlet Hose: Connect your spray gun or pressure washer hose to the "OUTLET" port of the AKM Spotless Water System, again using PTFE tape for a secure, leak-free connection.
  5. Position System: Place the system on a stable, level surface near your water source and the area where you will be washing.
  6. Initial Flush (Optional but Recommended): Before first use, turn the bypass valve to the "FILTER" position. Slowly turn on the water supply and allow water to flow through the system for 1-2 minutes to flush out any air or loose resin particles.

Operating Instructions

The AKM Spotless Water System offers two modes of operation: filtered (DI) water and bypass (tap) water.

Using the Bypass Valve:

Diagram illustrating the two positions of the bypass valve: 'FILTER' for tap water and 'BYPASS' for pure deionized water.

Figure 5: Bypass Valve Operation. This diagram clearly shows the two settings for the bypass valve. When set to "FILTER," water passes through the DI resin for deionization. When set to "BYPASS," water flows directly through the system without passing through the resin, providing unfiltered tap water.

  • FILTER Mode (Deionized Water): Turn the valve handle to the position labeled "FILTER" (as shown in Figure 5, left side). In this mode, water flows through the DI resin, removing minerals and producing deionized water. Use this mode for the final rinse of your vehicle to prevent water spots.
  • BYPASS Mode (Tap Water): Turn the valve handle to the position labeled "BYPASS" (as shown in Figure 5, right side). In this mode, water flows directly through the system without passing through the DI resin. This is useful for initial washing, soap application, or other tasks where deionized water is not required, thus conserving the DI resin.

Measuring Water Purity with the TDS Meter:

The included TDS meter allows you to monitor the effectiveness of the DI resin.

  1. Measure Tap Water: Before using the system, measure the TDS of your tap water. This provides a baseline.
  2. Measure DI Water: After the system has been running in "FILTER" mode for a short period, collect a small sample of the output water and measure its TDS.
  3. Optimal Purity: For spotless drying, the TDS reading of the deionized water should be as close to 0 PPM as possible (e.g., 0-10 PPM). A reading of 0 PPM indicates highly pure deionized water.
  4. Resin Depletion: As the DI resin becomes depleted, the TDS reading of the output water will gradually increase. When the TDS reading consistently rises above an acceptable level (e.g., 10-20 PPM, depending on desired purity), it indicates that the resin needs replacement.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your AKM Spotless Water System.

Resin Replacement:

  • The DI resin has a finite capacity. Its lifespan depends on the hardness (TDS level) of your incoming tap water and the volume of water processed.
  • Monitor the TDS output regularly using the provided TDS meter. When the output TDS begins to rise significantly (e.g., above 10-20 PPM), it is time to replace the resin.
  • Refer to the detailed instructions in the included manual for the specific procedure for opening the tank and replacing the DI resin. Ensure the system is depressurized before opening.
  • Only use high-quality mixed bed deionization resin specifically designed for water purification systems.

Storage:

  • When not in use for extended periods, store the system in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures.
  • If storing for several months, it is recommended to drain the water from the tank to prevent stagnation and potential bacterial growth.
  • Ensure all connections are disconnected and hoses are drained.

Cleaning:

  • Wipe down the exterior of the tank and cart with a damp cloth as needed to keep it clean.
  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on the system components.
