Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to properly install your TYT Adjustable Trailer Hitch:

  1. Insert Hitch into Receiver: Slide the main shank of the adjustable hitch into your vehicle's 2-inch hitch receiver. Ensure it is fully inserted until the pin holes align.
  2. Secure with Pin: Insert one of the provided hitch pins through the aligned holes in the receiver and the hitch shank. Secure it with the R-clip or cotter pin.
  3. Attach Ball Mount: Insert the adjustable ball mount into the vertical channel of the hitch shank.
  4. Adjust Height: Determine the appropriate drop or rise needed to keep your trailer level. Adjust the ball mount vertically to the desired height, aligning the pin holes.

  6. Install Tow Ball: Thread the 2-inch tow ball onto the ball mount and tighten securely with a wrench.

Operating Instructions

Before each towing operation, perform the following checks:

  • Ensure all pins are securely in place and locked.
  • Verify the tow ball is properly tightened.
  • Confirm the trailer coupler is correctly attached to the tow ball and secured.
  • Check that the trailer is level with the towing vehicle to prevent uneven tire wear and improve stability.
  • Do not exceed the maximum Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) of 7,500 lbs or the Tongue Weight (TW) of 750 lbs.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your trailer hitch:

  • Cleaning: Clean the hitch regularly with mild soap and water to remove dirt, salt, and road grime.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the hitch for any signs of wear, damage, cracks, or corrosion. Pay close attention to welds and pin holes.
  • Lubrication: Apply a thin layer of grease to the tow ball and any moving parts (e.g., pin mechanisms) to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the hitch in a dry place to prevent rust and corrosion. Consider removing it from the receiver if not towing for extended periods.
  • Powder Coat: The black powder coat finish helps resist rust. If the coating is chipped, touch up with rust-inhibiting paint to prevent corrosion.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions

  • Hitch not fitting into receiver: Ensure your vehicle has a standard 2-inch receiver. Check for any obstructions inside the receiver or on the hitch shank.
  • Trailer not level: Adjust the height of the ball mount in the vertical channel. Raise or lower it until the trailer is parallel to the ground when hitched.
  • Pins difficult to insert/remove: Ensure pin holes are aligned. Clean any dirt or debris from the pins and holes. Apply a small amount of lubricant if necessary.
  • Excessive sway during towing: Verify the trailer is level. Ensure tongue weight is within the recommended range (75-15% of GTW). Check tire pressure on both vehicle and trailer.
  • Rust or corrosion: Clean affected areas and apply rust-inhibiting paint. Regular cleaning and proper storage can prevent this.
