5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Connecting a Trailer
- Select the appropriate ball size (2" or 2-5/16") for your trailer coupler.
- Back your vehicle slowly towards the trailer, aligning the hitch ball with the trailer coupler.
- Lower the trailer coupler onto the hitch ball. Ensure the coupler fully engages and locks onto the ball.
- Attach the trailer's safety chains to your vehicle's hitch chain loops, crossing them under the coupler.
- Connect the trailer's electrical wiring to your vehicle's connector.
- Perform a light check (turn signals, brake lights, running lights) and ensure all connections are secure before driving.
5.2 Towing Considerations
- Pre-Trip Inspection: Always perform a thorough inspection of your vehicle, trailer, and hitch system before each trip.
- Weight Distribution: Ensure the trailer load is balanced to prevent sway and maintain control.
- Speed: Adhere to posted speed limits and reduce speed when towing, especially in adverse weather conditions.
- Braking: Allow for significantly longer braking distances when towing.

6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance will extend the life of your TYT Adjustable Truck Trailer Hitch.
- Cleaning: Clean the hitch regularly with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and dry to prevent water spots and corrosion.
- Lubrication: Apply a thin layer of grease to the hitch balls and any moving parts (e.g., adjustment points) periodically to ensure smooth operation and prevent rust.
- Inspection: Regularly check for signs of wear, cracks, bends, or corrosion on all components, especially the shank, ball mount, and hitch balls. Replace any damaged parts immediately.
- Storage: When not in use, store the hitch in a dry place to protect it from the elements.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your hitch, consider the following common solutions:
- Hitch Rattling: Ensure the hitch tightener is properly installed and tightened. Check that all pins are fully engaged.
- Difficulty Adjusting Height: Loosen the adjustment bolts sufficiently. Clean any dirt or debris from the adjustment channels and apply lubricant if necessary.
- Corrosion/Rust: Clean affected areas and apply a rust-inhibiting primer and paint. For severe corrosion, consider replacing the component. Regular cleaning and lubrication can prevent this.
- Loose Hitch Balls: Ensure the hitch balls are securely fastened to the ball mount. If they become loose, re-tighten them according to manufacturer specifications.
