1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the OSTBA FD-1027 Food Dehydrator. This appliance is designed to efficiently dry a variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, meats, and herbs, preserving their nutrients and flavors. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the dehydrator to ensure safe and optimal performance. Keep this manual for future reference.

2. Important Safety Instructions

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury, always follow these basic safety precautions.

  • Read all instructions before using the appliance.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse cord, plugs, or the appliance in water or other liquid.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Contact customer service for examination, repair, or adjustment.

  • Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "off", then remove plug from wall outlet.
  • Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  • Ensure the appliance is placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
  • Do not block ventilation openings during operation.

3. Product Overview and Components

The OSTBA FD-1027 features a dual-zone design, allowing for independent operation of each drying chamber. Familiarize yourself with the components:

4. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials from the dehydrator and its accessories. Retain packaging for future storage or transport if desired.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash all stainless steel trays, mesh screens, and fruit roll sheets in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely. Wipe the interior and exterior of the main unit with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the main unit in water.
  3. Placement: Place the dehydrator on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface. Ensure there is adequate space (at least 6 inches) around all sides of the unit for proper ventilation. Do not place it near heat sources or flammable materials.
  4. Tray Installation: Insert the stainless steel trays into the designated slots within each drying chamber. If using, place mesh screens on top of trays for smaller items or fruit roll sheets for purees. Ensure drip trays are at the bottom of each chamber.
  5. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a grounded 120V AC electrical outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Control Panel Overview

The dehydrator features two independent digital control panels, one for each drying zone. Each panel includes:

  • Power Button
  • Temperature Adjustment Buttons (Up/Down)
  • Timer Adjustment Buttons (Up/Down)
  • Preset Program Buttons (e.g., Apple, Banana, Jerky)
  • Start/Pause Button
  • Light Button (to illuminate the interior)

5.2. Basic Operation

  1. Prepare Food: Wash, peel, and slice your food according to recommended guidelines (see Section 5.5). Arrange food in a single layer on the trays, ensuring even spacing for optimal airflow.
  2. Load Trays: Carefully slide the loaded trays into the dehydrator chambers. Close the French doors securely.
  3. Power On: Press the Power button for the desired zone. The display will illuminate.
  4. Set Temperature: Use the Temperature Up/Down buttons to set the desired drying temperature (range: 95°F–180°F / 35°C–82°C).
  5. Set Timer: Use the Timer Up/Down buttons to set the desired drying time (range: 1–48 hours).
  6. Start Dehydration: Press the Start/Pause button to begin the drying process. The fan and heating element will activate.
  7. Monitor Progress: You can use the interior light button to check food progress without opening the doors.
  8. Completion: The dehydrator will automatically shut off when the timer expires. Carefully remove the trays using oven mitts, as they may be hot.

5.3. Dual Zone Independent Drying

The dual-zone feature allows you to dehydrate different types of food simultaneously at different temperatures and times without flavor mixing. Simply follow the basic operation steps for each zone independently. For example, you can dry jerky in one zone at 160°F for 8 hours, while drying herbs in the other zone at 100°F for 4 hours.

5.4. Using Preset Programs

The dehydrator includes 10 smart preset programs for common foods. To use a preset:

  1. Prepare and load food into the desired zone.
  2. Press the Power button for that zone.
  3. Select the corresponding preset button (e.g., "Apple"). The dehydrator will automatically set the recommended temperature and time.
  4. Press the Start/Pause button to begin.
  5. Note: Preset settings can be manually adjusted after selection if desired, before pressing Start.

5.5. Food Preparation Guidelines and Recommended Settings

Tips for Best Results:

  • Rotate trays periodically for more even drying, especially if drying different thicknesses.
  • Check food dryness regularly. Food is dry when it's pliable but not sticky (fruits), brittle (vegetables), or leathery (jerky).
  • Allow food to cool completely before storing. Store in airtight containers in a cool, dark place.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your dehydrator.

  1. Before Cleaning: Always unplug the dehydrator from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Trays, Mesh Screens, Fruit Roll Sheets: These accessories are dishwasher safe. Alternatively, wash them by hand in warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and dry completely.
  3. Drip Trays: Remove and empty the drip trays. Wash them with warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry.
  4. Main Unit (Interior & Exterior): Wipe the interior and exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn stains, use a mild detergent on the cloth, then wipe with a clean damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or immerse the main unit in water.
  5. Fan and Heating Element: Use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to gently remove any food particles or dust from the fan area and heating element. Do not spray water directly into these areas.
  6. Storage: Ensure all parts are clean and dry before storing. Store the dehydrator in a cool, dry place.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues, please refer to the following table before contacting customer support.
