1. Safety Information

Please read all safety warnings and instructions carefully before installing, operating, or performing maintenance on this appliance. Failure to follow these instructions may result in fire, explosion, electric shock, or property damage.

1.1 General Safety Precautions

  • Keep this manual for future reference.
  • Ensure the refrigerator is installed on a level, stable surface.
  • Do not store explosive substances such as aerosol cans with a flammable propellant in this appliance.
  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  • Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

1.2 Propane (LPG) Gas Safety

  • Ventilation: Always ensure adequate ventilation when operating the refrigerator on propane gas. Never operate in an unventilated area.
  • Leak Checks: Regularly check for gas leaks using a soapy water solution. Never use an open flame to check for leaks.
  • Gas Supply: Ensure the propane cylinder is securely connected and placed in a well-ventilated area, away from heat sources. Turn off the gas supply when the appliance is not in use or during transport.
  • Professional Installation: Gas connections should ideally be performed by a qualified technician.

1.3 Electrical Safety (110V)

  • Grounding: The appliance must be properly grounded to prevent electric shock.
  • Power Cord: Do not damage the power cord. If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid a hazard.

3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking and Inspection

  • Carefully remove all packaging materials.
  • Inspect the refrigerator for any shipping damage. Report any damage immediately to your retailer.
  • Remove all internal packing, including shelves and accessories, before cleaning the interior.

3.2 Placement and Ventilation

Proper placement and ventilation are crucial for the efficient and safe operation of your absorption refrigerator.

  • Place the refrigerator on a firm, level surface capable of supporting its weight when fully loaded.
  • Ensure adequate clearance around the unit: 4 inches (10 cm) at the top and 1 inch (2.5 cm) at the back and sides for proper air circulation. Restricting airflow can reduce cooling efficiency and pose a safety risk, especially when operating on gas.
  • Avoid direct sunlight or proximity to heat sources (e.g., ovens, radiators).

3.3 Leveling the Refrigerator

The refrigerator must be level for optimal performance of the absorption cooling system. Use the adjustable feet at the bottom of the unit to achieve a level position.

  • Turn the adjustable feet clockwise to raise the unit or counter-clockwise to lower it.
  • Use a spirit level to ensure the refrigerator is perfectly level from front to back and side to side.

3.4 Connecting Power

3.4.1 110V AC Electrical Connection

  • Plug the power cord into a grounded 110V AC electrical outlet.
  • Ensure the outlet is dedicated and properly rated for the appliance.

3.4.2 LPG (Propane) Gas Connection

  • Connect the propane gas line to the appliance's gas inlet. Ensure all connections are tight and secure.
  • Perform a leak test on all gas connections using a soapy water solution. Bubbles indicate a leak. Tighten connections or replace parts as necessary.
  • Never use an open flame to check for gas leaks.
  • It is recommended to have a qualified technician perform the gas installation and initial leak check.

3.5 Reversing the Door (Optional)

The refrigerator doors are reversible, allowing you to change the swing direction to suit your space. Refer to the detailed instructions in the full manual for the specific steps to reverse the doors. This process typically involves:

  • Removing hinge covers and screws.
  • Detaching the doors.
  • Swapping hinge positions and reattaching doors.

  • Power Indicator: Light indicating power status.
  • Mode Change Knob: Selects between gas (LPG) and 110V AC operation.

4.2 Gas (LPG) Operation

  1. Set Mode: Turn the Mode Change Knob to the 'Gas' setting.
  2. Ignite: Depress the Safety Valve button and hold it down. While holding, repeatedly press the Igniter button until the flame ignites.
  3. Verify Flame: Observe the Flame Indicator. Once it shows the flame is lit (e.g., green zone), continue holding the Safety Valve button for 3-5 seconds to ensure the safety valve is released and the flame remains lit.
  4. Adjust Temperature: Release the Safety Valve button. Turn the Temperature Controller to your desired cooling setting.
  5. Stabilization: Allow 6 to 8 hours for the refrigerator to reach the set temperature.

4.3 110V AC Operation

  2. Plug In: Ensure the refrigerator is plugged into a grounded 110V AC outlet.
  3. Adjust Temperature: Turn the Temperature Controller to your desired cooling setting.
  4. Stabilization: Allow 6 to 8 hours for the refrigerator to reach the set temperature.

4.4 Temperature Adjustment

The Temperature Controller allows you to set the desired cooling level. Higher numbers typically indicate colder settings. Adjust as needed based on ambient temperature and food load.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your SMETA refrigerator.

5.1 Cleaning

  • Interior: Clean the interior regularly with a mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft cloth and mild cleaner.
  • Door Seals: Clean door gaskets regularly to ensure a tight seal. A dirty or damaged seal can lead to inefficient cooling.
  • Dusting: Periodically dust the rear coils and ventilation areas to maintain optimal airflow and cooling efficiency.

5.2 Defrosting

This refrigerator features an automatic defrost system, minimizing the need for manual defrosting. However, if excessive frost builds up in the freezer compartment, it may be necessary to manually defrost.

  • Turn off the refrigerator and remove all food items.
  • Leave the freezer door open to allow frost to melt naturally. Place towels to absorb water.
  • Do not use sharp objects or heating devices to speed up defrosting, as this can damage the appliance.
  • Once defrosted, clean and dry the interior before restarting.
