5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Loading Bikes

  1. Place the first bike into the innermost position. Ensure the wheels rest securely in the cradles.
  2. Lower the padded hook onto the bike's frame and secure it firmly.
  3. Use the security straps to fasten the bike's wheels to the cradles, preventing movement during transport.
  4. Repeat for additional bikes, alternating handlebar directions to maximize space and prevent contact between bikes. Place heavier bikes (e.g., eBikes) in the inner positions first.

5.2 4-to-2 Bike Convertible Design

To convert the rack from a 4-bike capacity to a 2-bike capacity:

  1. Remove the outer add-on frames by disengaging their securing pins/bolts.
  2. Store the removed frames safely.
  3. Ensure any remaining components are securely fastened.

5.3 Folding and Tilting Functions

The rack features folding and tilting mechanisms for convenience:

  • Folding: When not in use, the vertical support and horizontal arms can be folded upwards against the vehicle to reduce the rack's footprint. Follow the specific release mechanism (pin/lever) to fold.
  • Tilting: To access your vehicle's trunk or tailgate without removing the bikes, use the tilting function. Engage the release mechanism (usually a lever or pin) to tilt the loaded rack downwards. Ensure the rack is securely locked back into the upright position before driving.

6. Maintenance

  • Regularly inspect all bolts, nuts, and pins for tightness. Tighten as needed.
  • Check straps and padded hooks for wear and tear. Replace if damaged.
  • Clean the rack periodically with mild soap and water to remove dirt and road grime.
  • Lubricate moving parts (e.g., folding/tilting mechanisms) annually or as needed to ensure smooth operation.
  • Store the rack in a dry place when not in use to prevent rust and prolong its lifespan.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Rack Wobbles: Ensure the anti-wobble bolt is fully tightened. Check that the hitch pin is correctly inserted and secured.
  • Bikes Shift During Transport: Verify that all padded hooks are firmly secured to the bike frames and all wheel straps are tight. Ensure handlebars are alternated for optimal spacing.
  • Difficulty Folding/Tilting: Check for any obstructions or debris in the mechanism. Apply lubricant if necessary. Ensure release pins/levers are fully engaged.

8. Safety Guidelines

  • Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 260 lbs total, or 80 lbs per inner bike and 50 lbs per outer bike.
  • Always ensure the rack is securely attached to the vehicle's hitch receiver before loading bikes.
  • Verify that all bikes are properly secured to the rack with padded hooks and wheel straps.
  • Check the rack and bikes regularly during long trips for any signs of loosening or shifting.
  • Be aware of the increased length and width of your vehicle when the bike rack is installed, especially when backing up or maneuvering in tight spaces.
  • Do not use the bike rack if any parts are damaged or missing.
