Aqualix T-CELL-15 Salt Cell Replacement Instruction Manual

For Hayward T-CELL-15 / W3T-CELL-15 Compatible Systems

1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Aqualix T-CELL-15 Salt Cell Replacement. This unit is designed to replace Hayward T-CELL-15 / W3T-CELL-15 salt cells in in-ground pools up to 40,000 gallons.

The Aqualix T-CELL-15 is compatible with Goldline AquaRite, AquaRite Pro, SwimPure Plus, AquaPlus, ProLogic P4/PS, OmniLogic, and OmniHub systems using software r1.5 or newer. It converts dissolved salt into free chlorine, maintaining clear, soft pool water and reducing the need for manual chemical additions.

2. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for safe and proper installation of your Aqualix T-CELL-15 salt cell. Ensure all power to the pool system is turned off before beginning installation.

  1. Turn Off Power: Disconnect all electrical power to your pool pump and chlorination system at the circuit breaker.
  2. Loosen Unions: Locate the existing salt cell in your plumbing system. Loosen the union nuts on both ends of the old cell.
  3. Remove Old Cell: Carefully remove the old salt cell from the plumbing. Be prepared for some water spillage.
  4. Install Aqualix T-CELL-15: Insert the Aqualix T-CELL-15 into the same position in your pool's plumbing. Ensure the flow direction arrow on the cell matches the water flow. Tighten the union nuts securely by hand, then use a wrench for a final quarter-turn to prevent leaks. Do not overtighten.
  5. Connect Cord: Plug the 13.5 ft cord from the new cell into the control unit.
  6. Configure Controller: Turn power back on. Access your Hayward controller (AquaRite, AquaRite Pro, etc.) and set the salt cell type to "T-15". Refer to your Hayward controller's manual for specific menu navigation.
  7. Fine-tune Output: Adjust the output percentage on your controller to match your pump run time and desired chlorine levels. Consult the included setup guide for initial recommendations.

3. Operating Instructions

Once installed and configured, the Aqualix T-CELL-15 will automatically generate chlorine to sanitize your pool water. The system converts dissolved salt into free chlorine, which then reverts back to salt, creating a continuous cycle. This process helps maintain consistent sanitizer levels, resulting in clear, soft water that is gentle on eyes, skin, and swimsuits.

Resetting Average Salt Level

The average salt level needs to be reset after initial startup, after a board replacement, following major pool chemistry adjustments, and when a cell is replaced. This procedure ensures accurate readings and optimal performance.

Procedure for Resetting Average Salt Level:

  1. Step 1: To reset, move the switch to 'Off' and then back to 'Auto'. Wait for the display to stabilize (approximately 5 to 10 seconds). The display will typically show a salt reading, for example, '1600'.
  2. Step 2: Press the 'Diagnostics' button 5 times to display the instant salt level. Wait for the number to stabilize. The display will show a negative value, for example, '-3200'.
  3. Step 3: When the instant salt level is stable (and the negative sign is still present), slide the switch to 'Super Chlorinate' and then back to 'Auto'. The display will still show the negative value, for example, '-3200'.
  4. Step 4: It takes about 30 seconds for the unit to settle back on the default reading. It should now reflect the new average salt level, for example, '3200'.

NOTE: Repeat this process one more time to ensure both polarities are reading within 500ppm of each other.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your Aqualix T-CELL-15. The primary maintenance task is cleaning the salt cell.

Cleaning the Salt Cell

When needed, typically indicated by a 'Check Cell' alert or reduced chlorine output, follow these steps to safely clean the salt cell:

  1. Turn Off Power: Always turn off all power to the pool system before handling the salt cell.
  2. Remove Cell: Disconnect the cell from the plumbing as described in the installation section.
  3. Inspect Cell: Visually inspect the titanium plates inside the cell for scale buildup (white, flaky deposits).
  4. Prepare Cleaning Solution: Mix a diluted acid solution. A common recommendation is one part muriatic acid to four parts water. Always add acid to water, never water to acid, and wear appropriate safety gear (gloves, eye protection).
  5. Soak Cell: Place the cell vertically in a cleaning stand or a bucket, ensuring the plates are submerged in the acid solution but the electrical cable connection remains dry. Allow it to soak until the scale dissolves, usually 15-30 minutes. Do not use metal objects to scrape the plates.
  6. Rinse Thoroughly: Once clean, remove the cell from the acid solution and rinse it thoroughly with fresh water.
  7. Reinstall Cell: Reinstall the clean cell into your pool plumbing, following the installation steps.

Regularly check your pool's water chemistry (salt level, pH, alkalinity, stabilizer) to prevent excessive scale buildup and ensure optimal cell performance.

5. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common alerts and issues you might encounter with your Aqualix T-CELL-15 salt chlorination system.

Common Error Messages and Solutions:
