5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your espresso machine.

5.1. Daily Cleaning

  • Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard coffee grounds, and rinse thoroughly under hot water.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray daily or when the indicator shows it's full. Wash with warm soapy water.
  • Steam Wand: Always wipe the steam wand immediately after frothing milk. Purge steam briefly to clear any internal milk residue.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

5.2. Water Tank Cleaning

Clean the water tank weekly with mild detergent and rinse thoroughly. Ensure no soap residue remains before refilling with fresh water.

5.3. Descaling

Descaling is crucial to remove mineral buildup and maintain machine performance. The machine features a "DESCALE" indicator. When this light illuminates, descaling is recommended.

  1. Empty the water tank and fill it with a descaling solution mixed according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  2. Place a large container under the group head and steam wand.
  3. Initiate the descaling cycle (refer to your machine's specific instructions, often involves holding the DESCALE button).
  4. Allow the machine to complete the descaling process, which typically involves dispensing the solution through the group head and steam wand.
