6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your pond filter system.
6.1. Cleaning Filter Sponges
The filter sponges should be cleaned regularly, typically every 2-4 weeks depending on pond conditions. Disconnect power before cleaning.
- Disconnect the unit from the power supply.
- Carefully remove the unit from the pond.
- Open the filter housing and remove the filter sponges.
- Rinse the sponges thoroughly with pond water (not tap water, to preserve beneficial bacteria) until clean.
- Reassemble the unit and place it back in the pond.
6.2. UV Lamp Replacement
The UV lamp has a limited lifespan (approximately 8000 hours or 9-12 months of continuous use) and should be replaced annually to maintain its effectiveness. Disconnect power before replacement.
- Disconnect the unit from the power supply.
- Remove the UV clarifier housing from the main unit.
- Carefully remove the old UV lamp. Do not touch the new lamp with bare hands, as oils can reduce its lifespan. Use gloves or a cloth.
- Insert the new UV lamp into the housing.
- Reassemble the UV clarifier and the main unit.
