Setup
Initial Assembly (if required)
Your Leo Jaymz Character Series Electric Guitar may require some minor assembly upon arrival, such as attaching the neck and installing strings. Follow these general steps:
- Install Tuning Machines: Secure the locking tuners onto the headstock.
- Install Pickups and Electronics: Carefully place the SSH pickups into their cavities and connect the wiring harness.
- Attach Neck: Align the neck with the body pocket and secure it using the neck plate and screws.
- Install Bridge: Place the tremolo bridge components onto the body.
- Stringing: Install the provided 09-42 gauge strings. Thread each string through the bridge, over the nut, and into the corresponding tuning machine. Wind the strings securely and trim any excess.
- Tuning: Tune the guitar to standard EADGBe tuning.
Video 1: General Electric Guitar Assembly Guide. This video demonstrates the assembly process for an electric guitar, including installing tuners, pickups, attaching the neck, and stringing. While the guitar model shown may differ, the fundamental steps are applicable to most electric guitars, including the Leo Jaymz Character Series.
Battery Installation for Active Pickups
The active SSH pickups require power. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the guitar (refer to Figure 4). Open the compartment and insert the required batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
Operating Instructions
Controls Overview

Using Built-in Multi-Effects
The Leo Jaymz Character Series Electric Guitar features a built-in multi-effects processor. To activate the effects, pull up the designated knob (refer to Figure 6). Once activated, you can select different effects such as distortion, overdrive, clean, chorus, delay, and reverb using the guitar's controls. Experiment with the knobs to adjust parameters like intensity, decay, and mix for each effect.
Pickup Selection
Use the 5-way switch (Figure 7) to select different pickup combinations. Each position offers a unique tonal characteristic:
- Position 1 (Bridge): Full humbucker tone, ideal for powerful leads and rhythm.
- Position 2 (Bridge & Middle): Blended tone, often brighter with a slight scoop.
- Position 3 (Middle): Balanced single-coil tone.
- Position 4 (Middle & Neck): Warm, articulate blend.
- Position 5 (Neck): Smooth single-coil tone, excellent for clean passages and bluesy leads.
Connecting to External Devices
Connect your guitar to an amplifier or audio interface using a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable via the cable output jack (Figure 2). The guitar also features an AUX input and a Headphone output for silent practice or connecting external audio sources.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe down the guitar body, neck, and strings with a soft, dry cloth after each use. For stubborn grime, use a guitar-specific cleaning solution.
- String Replacement: Replace strings regularly (every 1-3 months depending on usage) to maintain optimal tone and playability. Always use 09-42 gauge strings as recommended.
- Fretboard Care: Periodically clean and condition the maple fretboard to prevent drying and cracking.
- Hardware Inspection: Check all screws, nuts, and bolts for tightness. Ensure the tuning machines and bridge components are functioning smoothly.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the active pickup batteries when the sound becomes weak or distorted.
- Storage: Store the guitar in a case or on a stand in a climate-controlled environment to protect it from extreme temperature and humidity changes.
Troubleshooting
- No Sound: Check all cable connections, ensure the amplifier is on and volume is up, verify guitar volume knob is not at zero, and check active pickup battery life.
- Buzzing/Fretting Out: This could indicate high or low action, or uneven frets. Professional setup may be required.
- Poor Tuning Stability: Ensure strings are properly installed and stretched. Check locking tuners for tightness and the nut for any binding.
- Effects Not Working: Confirm the built-in effects are activated (knob pulled up) and that the battery for the active system is charged.
- Excessive Noise/Hum: Ensure proper grounding of your amplifier and cables. Active pickups are designed to be low-noise, but external interference can occur.
