1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the AQQA 1000W Submersible Aquarium Heater. This device is designed to maintain a stable and appropriate water temperature for your aquatic pets in both freshwater and saltwater environments. Featuring rapid heating quartz tubes and a precise dual digital display controller, it ensures optimal conditions for tanks up to 180 gallons. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and operation to ensure safe and efficient use.
2. Safety Instructions
- Always ensure the heater is fully submerged in water before plugging it in and during operation. Failure to do so can cause damage to the heater and pose a safety risk.
- Unplug the heater from the power outlet and allow it to cool for at least 10 minutes before performing any aquarium maintenance, water changes, or removing the heater from the tank.
- The controller unit is not waterproof. Keep it away from water to prevent electric shock or damage.
- Do not operate the heater if the power cord or plug is damaged.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Ensure the voltage (110-120V) matches your power supply.
3. Product Features
- Rapid Heating: Constructed with explosion-proof quartz tubes and high-temperature resistant nickel-chromium alloy heating wires for quick and efficient water heating. The ABS shell protects fish and prevents scalding.
- Precise Dual Digital Display Controller: Shows both the set temperature and real-time water temperature with 1°F/1°C accuracy.
- Intelligent Overheating Protection: Automatically stops heating if the water temperature exceeds 95°F (35°C) and displays 'HH'. If the water temperature drops below 59°F (15°C), it displays 'LL' and continues heating.
- Anti-Dry Burning Function: Triggers error code 'L1' and automatically cuts off power if the heating rod is exposed to air. Resumes operation once fully submerged.
- Memory Function: Retains the previously set temperature even after a power interruption.
- Wide Application: Suitable for marine saltwater and freshwater aquariums, fish tanks, turtle tanks, and betta tanks up to 180 gallons.
4. Package Contents
- 1 x AQQA Aquarium Heater (1000W)
- 1 x External Digital Display Controller
- 3 x Suction Cups (pre-attached or included for heater mounting)
- 1 x Instruction Manual
5. Setup Guide
- Unpack and Inspect: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect the heater and controller for any signs of damage. Do not use if damaged.
- Mount the Heater: Attach the suction cups to the heater rod. Position the heater inside your aquarium, ensuring it is fully submerged in the water. The heater can be installed vertically or horizontally. Ensure it is not in direct contact with the substrate or decorations to allow for proper water circulation.
- Position the Controller: Place the external digital display controller in a dry location, away from water splashes. The controller is not waterproof.
- Acclimatization: Allow the heater to remain fully submerged in the aquarium water for at least 15-20 minutes before plugging it in. This allows the heater's internal components to adjust to the water temperature, preventing thermal shock.
- Power Connection: After acclimatization, plug the heater's power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.

6. Operating Instructions
- Power On: Once plugged in, the digital display on the controller will light up, showing the current water temperature (PV) and the set temperature (SV).
- Set Temperature: Press the "SET" button on the controller. The set temperature (SV) display will flash. Use the up/down arrows (if available, or repeated presses of SET button to cycle through temperatures) to adjust the desired temperature between 59°F (15°C) and 94°F (34°C). The setting will automatically save after 3 seconds of inactivity.
- Fahrenheit/Celsius Switch: To switch between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C), press and hold the "SET" button for 8 seconds.
- Indicator Lights:
- Red Light: Indicates the heater is actively heating the water.
- Blue Light: Indicates the preset water temperature has been reached, and the heater is in standby mode.
- Memory Function: The heater will remember your last set temperature even after a power outage.

7. Maintenance
- Regularly check the heater and power cord for any signs of damage or wear.
- Clean the heater rod periodically to prevent algae or mineral buildup, which can affect its efficiency. Always unplug the heater and allow it to cool before cleaning.
- Use a soft cloth or sponge to gently wipe the heater rod. Do not use abrasive cleaners or chemicals.
8. Troubleshooting
The AQQA Aquarium Heater is equipped with intelligent protection functions that display error codes on the controller:
- Error Code L1 (Anti-Dry Burning): This indicates the heating rod is exposed to air. The heater will automatically cut off power. To resolve, ensure the heater is fully submerged in water. Once fully submerged, it will resume normal operation.
- Error Code HH (Overheating Protection): This indicates the water temperature has exceeded 95°F (35°C). The heater will automatically stop heating. Check the ambient temperature and ensure the heater wattage is appropriate for your tank size. Allow the water to cool naturally or perform a partial water change with cooler water if necessary.
- Error Code LL (Low Temperature Protection): This indicates the water temperature is below 59°F (15°C). The heater will continue to heat until the set temperature is reached. If this persists, ensure the heater is functioning correctly and its wattage is sufficient for your tank size and ambient conditions.
