4. Installation (Setup)
Proper installation is crucial for accurate measurement. Follow these guidelines:
- Mounting Location: At the time of installation, maintain a distance of at least 200mm between the meter and the container wall. It is recommended that the size of the container opening be larger than 500mm.
- Transducer Orientation: The transducer should be perpendicular to the appearance of the measured medium (liquid surface). The instrument should not be installed in the middle of an arched tank roof to avoid multiple reflections.
- Avoid Obstacles: The instrument should avoid obstacles (e.g., pipes, stirrers) within the measurement path.
- Inlet Position: Do not install the instrument directly above the inlet, as the real liquid level may not be detected accurately due to turbulence or incoming flow.
- Outdoor Installation: For outdoor installations, take shading and rain prevention measures to protect the device.

Figure 2: Visual guide for correct and incorrect installation practices. This includes maintaining distance from tank walls, ensuring perpendicularity to the liquid surface, avoiding installation above inlets, and preventing interference from internal obstacles.
5. Wiring
The electrical connections are made via the terminal block located inside the device. Ensure all connections are secure and correct before powering on the unit. Please tighten the inlet and outlet cables.
- Power Supply: Connect DC 24V to the designated positive terminal.
- Signal Output: Connect the 4-20mA signal positive to the corresponding terminal.
- Ground: Connect the ground wire to the ground terminal.

6. Operation
The Walfront Ultrasonic Level Meter features an LCD display and three light touch keys (A, B, C) for configuration and operation.
6.1 Key Functions
- Key A (Menu): Used to access the menu and navigate through options.
- Key B (Confirm): Used to confirm selections or enter values.
- Key C (Multiply): Used for adjusting values or specific functions within the menu.
6.2 Configuration Options
The device offers several configurable settings:
- Level/Liquid Level Mode Selection: Choose between different measurement modes based on the application.
- Output Range Setting: The start and end of the 4-20mA output range can be set arbitrarily to match your system requirements.
- HART Communication: HART communication protocol is available for advanced configuration and data retrieval.
- Restore Settings: Supports restoring factory settings if needed.
- Digital Filtering: Built-in digital filtering to enhance measurement stability.
- Dynamic Recognition: Features dynamic recognition capabilities for improved performance.
7. Measurement Principles
The ultrasonic level meter operates by emitting ultrasonic pulses towards the liquid surface and measuring the time it takes for the echo to return. This time-of-flight measurement is then converted into a distance, which corresponds to the liquid level.
- Dead Zone: This is the minimum distance from the sensor face within which accurate measurements cannot be made. Ensure the liquid level does not enter this zone.
- Measuring Range: The total distance over which the sensor can accurately measure the liquid level (0-10m for this model).
- Current Liquid Level (H): The calculated distance from the sensor to the liquid surface.

9. Maintenance
The Walfront Ultrasonic Level Meter is designed for minimal maintenance. However, regular checks can ensure its longevity and accuracy.
- Cable Connections: Periodically check and ensure all inlet and outlet cables are securely tightened. Loose connections can lead to intermittent operation or signal loss.
- Sensor Surface: Keep the transducer surface clean from excessive buildup or debris, which could interfere with ultrasonic wave transmission and reception.
- Housing Integrity: Inspect the ABS waterproof housing for any signs of damage or cracks that could compromise its IP65 protection.
- Environmental Conditions: Ensure the operating environment remains within the specified normal temperature and pressure ranges.
10. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Walfront Ultrasonic Level Meter, consider the following general troubleshooting steps:
- No Reading/Inaccurate Reading:
- Check power supply (DC 24V).
- Verify cable connections are secure.
- Ensure the transducer surface is clean.
- Review installation guidelines (distance from wall, perpendicularity, obstacles, inlet position) as per Section 4.
- Check if the liquid level is within the blind zone or beyond the measuring range.
- No Output Signal (4-20mA):
- Confirm wiring for the 4-20mA output.
- Check the output range settings in the device configuration.
- Display Issues:
- Ensure power supply is stable.
- If the display is blank, check power and internal connections.
