5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Initial Power-Up

Once the battery is correctly installed, the smoke detector will emit a short beep and the LED indicator will flash once, indicating it is powered on and performing a self-test.

5.2 Normal Operation

During normal operation, the LED indicator will flash approximately once every 40-60 seconds to confirm that the unit is functioning correctly.

5.3 Testing the Smoke Detector

Test your smoke detector weekly to ensure it is working properly. Press and hold the 'TEST' button located on the front of the unit for a few seconds. The alarm will sound a loud, pulsating signal (85dB), and the LED will flash rapidly. Release the button to stop the alarm. If the alarm does not sound, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures your smoke detector remains operational.

6.1 Battery Replacement

The smoke detector will emit a short chirp approximately every 40-60 seconds when the battery is low. This low battery warning indicates that the 9V battery needs to be replaced immediately. The battery typically lasts for 1 year.

  1. Twist the detector counter-clockwise to remove it from the mounting bracket.
  2. Open the battery compartment.
  3. Remove the old 9V battery and dispose of it properly.
  4. Insert a new 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  5. Close the battery compartment and reattach the detector to the mounting bracket by twisting clockwise.
  6. Test the alarm after battery replacement.

6.2 Cleaning Your Smoke Detector

Dust and debris can accumulate on the smoke detector and affect its performance. Clean your smoke detector at least once a month.

  1. Gently vacuum the exterior of the smoke detector using a soft brush attachment.
  2. Wipe the exterior with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use cleaning solvents or chemicals.
  3. Ensure no moisture enters the unit.
