4. Setup
4.1. Battery Installation
The Snakol SK-B3 Multimeter requires two 1.5V AAA batteries (not included). To install or replace batteries:
- Ensure the multimeter is powered off and disconnect all test leads from the input terminals.
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the meter.
- Use a screwdriver to open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert two 1.5V AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.
Note: Remove batteries if the meter is not used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Power On/Off
Press the SEL button briefly to power on the multimeter. The meter will automatically enter auto-ranging mode. To power off, press and hold the SEL button for approximately 2 seconds.
5.2. Automatic Recognition Mode
In automatic recognition mode, the multimeter intelligently identifies the type of measurement (AC/DC voltage, resistance, continuity) and selects the appropriate range. Simply connect the test leads to the circuit, and the meter will display the reading.
5.3. AC/DC Voltage Measurement
- Insert the red test lead into the VΩ jack and the black test lead into the COM jack.
- Connect the test probes in parallel to the circuit or component you wish to measure.
- The meter will automatically detect and display the AC or DC voltage.
5.4. AC/DC Current Measurement (up to 400mA)
- Insert the red test lead into the mA jack and the black test lead into the COM jack.
- Disconnect power to the circuit.
- Open the circuit where you want to measure current and connect the test probes in series with the circuit.
- Restore power to the circuit. The meter will automatically detect and display the AC or DC current.
- After measurement, disconnect power, remove the meter from the circuit, and reconnect the circuit.
5.5. Resistance Measurement
- Insert the red test lead into the VΩ jack and the black test lead into the COM jack.
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized and all capacitors are discharged.
- Connect the test probes across the component to measure resistance.
- The meter will automatically display the resistance value.
5.6. Capacitance Measurement (SK-B3 Only)
- Insert the red test lead into the VΩ jack and the black test lead into the COM jack.
- Ensure the capacitor is fully discharged before connecting the test probes.
- Connect the test probes across the capacitor terminals.
- The meter will display the capacitance value.
5.7. NCV (Non-Contact Voltage) Measurement
The NCV function allows for detection of AC voltage without direct contact with wires.
- Press the NCV/LIVE button to activate NCV mode.
- Move the top of the multimeter (where the NCV sensor is located) close to the conductor being tested.
- If AC voltage is detected, the meter will emit an audible beep and the NCV indicator on the display will illuminate. The intensity of the beeping and indicator will increase with stronger voltage.

5.8. Zero Fire Identification (Live Wire Detection)
This function helps identify live wires.
- Press the NCV/LIVE button repeatedly until 'LIVE' is indicated on the display.
- Insert the red test lead into the VΩ jack.
- Touch the red probe to the wire or terminal you suspect is live.
- If a live wire is detected, the meter will beep and the display will show 'LIVE'.
5.9. Continuity Test (On/Off Beeping)
This function checks for continuity in a circuit.
- Insert the red test lead into the VΩ jack and the black test lead into the COM jack.
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
- Connect the test probes across the circuit or component.
- If continuity exists (low resistance), the meter will emit an audible beep.
5.10. Data Hold
Press the HOLD button briefly to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold function and resume live measurements.
5.11. Backlight and Flashlight
Press and hold the HOLD button for approximately 2 seconds to turn on or off the display backlight and flashlight. This feature is useful in dimly lit environments.
5.12. Auto Power Off
The multimeter features an auto power off function to conserve battery life. If no operation is performed for approximately 15 minutes, the meter will automatically power off. To disable this feature temporarily, refer to the advanced settings section in the full manual (if available).
6. Maintenance
6.1. Cleaning
Wipe the meter's casing with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the meter is completely dry before use.
6.2. Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries as described in Section 4.1. Prompt battery replacement ensures accurate measurements and proper operation.
7. Troubleshooting
- Meter does not power on: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are not depleted.
- No reading or unstable reading: Ensure test leads are properly connected and making good contact with the circuit. Verify the circuit is powered (if applicable).
- Incorrect readings: Check battery level. Ensure the correct measurement function is selected (though auto-ranging handles most). Verify the component or circuit is within the meter's measurement range.
- Continuity buzzer not working: Ensure the meter is in continuity mode and the circuit is de-energized.
