5. Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your espresso machine.
5.1 Daily Cleaning:
- Portafilter and Baskets: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard spent coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and basket under hot water.
- Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily.
- Steam Wand: As mentioned in section 4.2, wipe the steam wand immediately after frothing and purge it to prevent milk buildup.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
5.2 Water Tank Cleaning:
Clean the water tank weekly with mild detergent and rinse thoroughly. Ensure no soap residue remains.
5.3 Descaling:
Depending on water hardness and usage, descale your machine every 2-3 months. Use a commercial descaling solution specifically designed for coffee machines and follow the product's instructions. Descaling removes mineral buildup that can affect machine performance and coffee taste.
