4.2 Power On/Off
To power on the device, press and hold the Power On/Off button (usually labeled with a power icon) on the control panel until the LCD screen illuminates. To power off, press and hold the same button until the screen turns off.
4.3 Detection Modes
The OT-MD16 offers 5 specialized search modes to optimize detection for different types of metals and environments. Use the 'MODE' button to cycle through these options:
- ALL METAL Mode: Detects all types of metal. This mode is ideal for general searching when you want to find any metallic object.
- DISC Mode (Discrimination): Eliminates unwanted metal targets one by one. This allows you to filter out common trash items like iron or foil.
- NOTCH Mode: Freely discriminates against specific categories of metals (e.g., foil, 5-cent coins, pull tabs, 1-cent coins). This provides more precise control over what the detector ignores.
- MEMORY Mode: Allows you to store and search for specific metal types, eliminating others.
- PP Mode (Pinpoint): Enables you to pinpoint the exact location of a detected target, reducing digging time.

4.4 Metal Identification (ID)
The LCD display provides instant identification of detected metals using a numerical ID (01-99) and corresponding icons. This helps you determine the probable type of metal before digging.
- 01-40: Typically indicates iron or small foil.
- 41-55: Often corresponds to 5-cent nickel jewelry.
- 56-65: May indicate pull tab jewelry.
- 66-75: Commonly associated with 1-cent/zinc jewelry.
- 76-85: Suggests 25-cent copper coins.
- 86-99: Often indicates 1-dollar/50-cent silver coins.

4.5 Sensitivity and Volume Adjustment
The detector features 10-level sensitivity and volume controls. Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust these settings.
- Sensitivity: Adjust sensitivity to suit the environment. Lower sensitivity is recommended indoors or in areas with high electrical interference to prevent false signals. Higher sensitivity can be used in open, clear areas for deeper detection.
- Volume: Adjust the audio output level of the detector.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
- The search coil is IP68 waterproof and can be rinsed with fresh water after use, especially in saltwater environments.
- Wipe the control box and shaft with a damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ensure all components are dry before storage.
5.2 Storage
- Store the metal detector in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- For long-term storage, it is recommended to partially charge the battery (around 50%) and recharge it every few months to maintain battery health.
- The included backpack can be used for convenient storage and transport.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 False Signals or Erratic Behavior
- High Sensitivity: If experiencing false signals, especially indoors or near electrical sources, reduce the sensitivity level.
- Environmental Interference: Metal objects in your immediate vicinity (e.g., metal furniture, rebar in concrete floors) can cause interference. Move to a clear area or adjust sensitivity.
- Ground Mineralization: In highly mineralized ground, the detector may give false signals. Adjusting the ground balance (if available, or using a lower sensitivity) can help.
6.2 No Power
- Ensure the battery is fully charged.
- Check the charging cable and adapter for any damage.
- Verify that the power button is pressed and held correctly.
6.3 No Audio from Headphones
- Check if the headphones are securely plugged into the jack.
- Adjust the volume level on the detector.
- Test the headphones with another device to ensure they are functional.
