4. Setup and First Use

4.1 Battery Installation

The Nitecore P40 comes with the NL2155HP battery pre-installed. Ensure the battery is properly seated before first use. If removing or replacing the battery, unscrew the tail cap, insert the battery with the positive (+) terminal facing the head of the flashlight, and then securely re-screw the tail cap.

4.2 Initial Charging

It is recommended to fully charge the battery before the first use to ensure optimal performance. Connect the provided USB-C charging cable to the flashlight's USB-C port and a compatible power source (e.g., USB wall adapter, computer USB port).

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Intuitive Three-Button Control

The P40 features a three-button interface for easy operation:

  • Power Button: Controls On/Off and Tactical Momentary Illumination.
  • Button A: Adjusts brightness levels and provides quick access to TURBO mode.
  • Button B: Adjusts brightness levels and switches between Spotlight and Floodlight.
  • Button A + Button B: Activates Adaptive Cruise Mode.

5.2 Power On/Off

  • To turn on: Press the Power Button.
  • To turn off: Press the Power Button again.

5.3 Mode Selection and Brightness Adjustment

While the flashlight is on, use Button A and Button B to cycle through brightness levels and switch between Spotlight, Floodlight, and Mixed Light modes. The flashlight will memorize the last used beam setting.

5.4 Adaptive Cruise Mode

Activate Adaptive Cruise Mode by pressing Button A and Button B simultaneously. In this mode, the flashlight automatically adjusts its brightness based on the angle it is held. Pointing it upwards for long distances increases brightness, while pointing it downwards for close range decreases brightness, optimizing power consumption and visibility.

5.5 Power Indication

The integrated power indicator provides real-time battery status:

  • Constant-on: Battery Level > 50% (51%-100%)
  • Slow Flashing: Battery Level ≤ 50% (10%-50%)
  • Quick Flashing: Battery Level < 10%

The Nitecore P40 features a USB-C charging port for convenient and fast recharging. The port is protected by a cover to resist water, impacts, and dust.

  • Connect the USB-C cable to the flashlight and a 18W PD/QC adapter.
  • A full charge takes approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes.
  • Ensure the protective cover is securely closed after charging to maintain water resistance.

7. Maintenance

  • Regularly clean the threads and O-rings with a clean cloth to prevent dust and debris accumulation.
  • Lubricate threads and O-rings with silicone grease periodically to maintain water resistance.
  • If the flashlight is not used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage.
  • Store the flashlight in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Flashlight not turning on: Ensure the battery is correctly inserted with the positive (+) terminal facing the head. Check if the battery is charged.
  • Light output is dim or flickering: Recharge the battery. Clean battery contacts and threads.
  • Water ingress: Ensure all caps and covers are securely tightened. Check O-rings for damage and replace if necessary.
  • If issues persist, contact Nitecore customer support.
