4. Setup and First Use
4.1 Battery Installation
The Nitecore P40 comes with the NL2155HP battery pre-installed. Ensure the battery is properly seated before first use. If removing or replacing the battery, unscrew the tail cap, insert the battery with the positive (+) terminal facing the head of the flashlight, and then securely re-screw the tail cap.
4.2 Initial Charging
It is recommended to fully charge the battery before the first use to ensure optimal performance. Connect the provided USB-C charging cable to the flashlight's USB-C port and a compatible power source (e.g., USB wall adapter, computer USB port).
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Intuitive Three-Button Control
The P40 features a three-button interface for easy operation:
- Power Button: Controls On/Off and Tactical Momentary Illumination.
- Button A: Adjusts brightness levels and provides quick access to TURBO mode.
- Button B: Adjusts brightness levels and switches between Spotlight and Floodlight.

5.2 Power On/Off
- To turn on: Press the Power Button.
- To turn off: Press the Power Button again.
5.3 Mode Selection and Brightness Adjustment
While the flashlight is on, use Button A and Button B to cycle through brightness levels and switch between Spotlight, Floodlight, and Mixed Light modes. The flashlight will memorize the last used beam setting.
5.4 Adaptive Cruise Mode
Activate Adaptive Cruise Mode by pressing Button A and Button B simultaneously. In this mode, the flashlight automatically adjusts its brightness based on the angle it is held. Pointing it upwards for long distances increases brightness, while pointing it downwards for close range decreases brightness, optimizing power consumption and visibility.
5.5 Power Indication
The integrated power indicator provides real-time battery status:
- Constant-on: Battery Level > 50% (51%-100%)
- Slow Flashing: Battery Level ≤ 50% (10%-50%)
- Quick Flashing: Battery Level < 10%
