Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for your child's safety. Always read the full instruction manual provided with your car seat and your vehicle's owner's manual before installation. The Maxi-Cosi Kani can be installed using either your vehicle's LATCH system or the vehicle's seatbelt.
Rear-Facing Installation (5-40 lbs, 19"-40")
- Ensure the car seat is in the correct recline position for rear-facing use. Refer to the recline indicator on the side of the car seat.
- For children up to 35 lbs, you may use the lower anchors of the LATCH system. For children over 35 lbs, you must use the vehicle's seatbelt for installation.
- Route the LATCH connectors or vehicle seatbelt through the designated rear-facing belt path.
- Press firmly on the car seat while tightening the LATCH strap or seatbelt until the car seat moves no more than 1 inch side-to-side or front-to-back at the belt path.
- The top tether is not used in rear-facing mode.
Forward-Facing Installation (30-65 lbs, 34.4"-49")
- Ensure the car seat is in the correct recline position for forward-facing use.
- Route the LATCH connectors or vehicle seatbelt through the designated forward-facing belt path.
- Press firmly on the car seat while tightening the LATCH strap or seatbelt until the car seat moves no more than 1 inch side-to-side or front-to-back at the belt path.
- Always use the top tether when installing the car seat in forward-facing mode, regardless of whether you use LATCH or the vehicle seatbelt. Attach the top tether to the designated anchor point in your vehicle and tighten.
Booster Seat Mode (40-100 lbs, 43.4"-57")
- Remove the car seat's internal harness system.
- Position the booster seat on the vehicle seat.
- Secure your child using the vehicle's lap and shoulder belt, ensuring the shoulder belt lies flat across the center of your child's shoulder and chest, and the lap belt is low on the hips, touching the thighs.
