2. Safety Information
WARNING: To avoid possible electric shock, fire, or personal injury, please read all safety information before using the product.
- Always ensure the meter is in the correct function and range before making measurements.
- Do not use the meter if it appears damaged or if the test leads are damaged.
- Do not apply more than the rated voltage, as marked on the meter, between the terminals or between any terminal and earth ground.
- Use caution when working with voltages above 30V AC RMS, 42V peak, or 60V DC. Such voltages pose a shock hazard.
- Disconnect the test leads from the circuit before changing functions.
- Remove the batteries if the meter is not used for a long period.
- Adhere to local and national safety codes.
3. Setup
3.1 Battery Installation
The SK203 clamp meter requires two 1.5V AAA batteries for operation. To install or replace batteries:
- Ensure the meter is turned OFF.
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
- Use a screwdriver to open the battery compartment.
- Insert two 1.5V AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -).
- Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.
3.2 Connecting Test Leads
For voltage, resistance, capacitance, frequency, and temperature measurements, connect the test leads:
- Insert the black test lead into the "COM" (common) input jack.
- Insert the red test lead into the "INPUT" jack.
4. Operating Instructions
Turn the rotary switch to select the desired measurement function. The meter features an "AUTO" range for most measurements, simplifying operation.

Figure 2: The clamp meter in operation, measuring current by clamping around a single conductor.
4.1 AC/DC Current Measurement (Clamp)
- Turn the rotary switch to the "60A~" or "600A~" position for AC current, or "60A=" or "600A=" for DC current.
- Press the clamp trigger to open the jaws.
- Place the jaws around a single conductor (not a power cord with multiple wires) through which the current is flowing.
- Release the trigger to close the jaws securely around the conductor.
- Read the current value on the display.
- For DC current, use the "ZERO" button to zero out any offset before measurement.
4.2 AC/DC Voltage Measurement
- Connect the test leads as described in Section 3.2.
- Turn the rotary switch to the "V~" (AC Voltage) or "V=" (DC Voltage) position.
- Connect the test probes in parallel to the circuit or component you wish to measure.
- Read the voltage value on the display.
4.3 Resistance Measurement
- Connect the test leads.
- Turn the rotary switch to the "Ω" (Ohm) position.
- Ensure the circuit or component is de-energized before measuring resistance.
- Connect the test probes across the component.
- Read the resistance value on the display.
4.4 Capacitance Measurement
- Connect the test leads.
- Turn the rotary switch to the "CAP" position.
- Ensure the capacitor is fully discharged before measurement to avoid damage to the meter.
- Connect the test probes across the capacitor terminals.
- Read the capacitance value on the display.
4.5 Frequency (Hz) and Duty Cycle Measurement
- Connect the test leads.
- Turn the rotary switch to the "Hz%" position.
- Connect the test probes to the signal source.
- Press the "SEL" button to toggle between frequency (Hz) and duty cycle (%).
- Read the value on the display.
4.6 Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection
- Turn the rotary switch to the "NCV" position.
- Move the top end of the meter (where the NCV sensor is located) close to the conductor or outlet.
- The meter will emit an audible beep and the NCV indicator light will flash if AC voltage is detected.
4.7 Special Functions
- HOLD Button: Press to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
- SEL Button: Used to select between different functions within a single rotary switch position (e.g., AC/DC, Hz/%).
- ZERO Button: Used to zero out DC current readings before measurement to compensate for residual magnetism.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
Wipe the meter with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the meter is completely dry before use.
5.2 Battery Replacement
Refer to Section 3.1 for battery installation and replacement instructions. Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display.
5.3 Storage
When not in use, store the meter in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Meter does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity or replace batteries. |
| No reading or "OL" (Overload) displayed. | Incorrect function selected, open circuit, or measurement exceeds range. | Select correct function, check circuit continuity, or ensure measurement is within meter's range. |
| Inaccurate readings. | Poor test lead connection, external interference, or low battery. | Ensure secure connections, move away from strong electromagnetic fields, or replace batteries. |
| DC current reading is not zero before measurement. | Residual magnetism in the clamp jaws. | Press the "ZERO" button before taking a DC current measurement. |
