5. Setup and Connection

  1. Connect Power: Plug the AC power cable into the charger's power input port, then plug the other end into a suitable wall outlet (100-240V AC).
  2. Prepare Battery: Ensure your LiPo battery is undamaged and at room temperature. Identify if it is a 3S (11.1V) or 4S (14.8V) battery.
  3. Connect Balance Lead: Locate the white balance connector on your LiPo battery. Carefully plug this connector into the corresponding balance port on the charger (labeled "3S" or "4S"). Ensure the connector is inserted correctly and fully seated.
  4. Connect Main Discharge Lead (Optional/If applicable): Some chargers may require the main discharge lead (e.g., XT60, T-Plug) to be connected for charging. Refer to your battery's specific instructions. The FMS A400 primarily uses the balance port for charging.

6. Operation (Charging)

  1. Once the battery's balance lead is correctly connected to the appropriate port (3S or 4S), the charger will automatically begin the charging process.
  2. The status indicator LEDs will illuminate red (or similar color) to indicate that charging is in progress. Each cell's LED may light up individually or a single overall charging LED will be active.
  3. When the battery is fully charged, the status indicator LEDs will turn green (or similar color) for all cells, or the overall charging LED will change to green.
  4. Once charging is complete, disconnect the battery from the charger. First, remove the balance lead, then any main discharge lead if connected.

Note: The FMS A400 is a simple balance charger. It automatically detects the cell count (3S or 4S) based on the port used and charges accordingly. There are no manual settings for charge current or voltage on this model.

7. Maintenance and Storage

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Charger not powering on.No power from outlet; loose power cable.Check wall outlet; ensure power cable is securely connected to charger and outlet.
Battery not charging (no red LED).Loose balance connection; incorrect balance port used; battery too low/damaged.Ensure balance lead is fully inserted into the correct 3S or 4S port. Inspect battery for damage.
Battery gets excessively hot during charging.Damaged battery; internal short circuit.Immediately disconnect the battery. Do not continue charging. Dispose of the battery safely.
Charging takes too long.Battery capacity is very high; battery is deeply discharged. This is a basic charger with a fixed charge rate. High capacity or deeply discharged batteries will naturally take longer.
