Operating Instructions

Ink Filling Procedure (Vacuum Filler):

  1. Unscrew the blind cap at the end of the pen barrel. This will expose the piston rod.
  2. Pull the piston rod fully upwards until it stops.
  3. Submerge the nib and a portion of the section into your bottled fountain pen ink.
  4. Push the piston rod down quickly and firmly. This action creates a vacuum, drawing ink into the pen's reservoir.
  5. Wait a few seconds for the ink to settle. You may repeat step 4 once or twice to ensure a full fill.
  6. Remove the nib from the ink bottle and wipe any excess ink from the nib and section with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  7. Screw the blind cap back into place.

Note on Continuous Ink Flow:

For extended writing sessions, or if ink flow becomes intermittent, slightly unscrew the blind cap a few turns. This allows air to enter the reservoir, ensuring a continuous flow of ink to the nib. Remember to tighten the blind cap after writing or when transporting the pen to prevent leaks.

Writing:

Hold the pen comfortably, allowing the nib to rest gently on the paper. Apply minimal pressure; the ink should flow smoothly. Experiment with different angles to find your preferred writing position.

Maintenance

Regular cleaning is essential to prevent ink clogs and maintain optimal performance, especially when changing ink colors or if the pen has been unused for a period.

Routine Cleaning:

  1. Empty any remaining ink from the pen using the vacuum filling mechanism.
  2. Fill the pen with clean, cool water using the same vacuum filling procedure.
  3. Expel the water. Repeat this process until the water expelled is clear.
  4. For a more thorough flush, you can let the pen soak nib-down in a glass of clean water for a few hours or overnight.
  5. Dry the nib and section gently with a soft, lint-free cloth. Allow the pen to air dry completely before refilling or storing.

Disassembly for Deep Cleaning or Seal Replacement:

The included wrench key is for disassembling the pen for deep cleaning or replacing the internal seals. This procedure should only be performed if necessary and with care.

  1. Ensure the pen is completely empty of ink and has been flushed with water.
  2. Unscrew the blind cap and pull the piston rod fully upwards.
  3. Use the wrench key to carefully unscrew the piston mechanism from the barrel. Refer to online resources or manufacturer videos for visual guidance if unsure.
  4. Once disassembled, clean all components with cool water. Replace seals if they appear worn or damaged, using one of the provided spare sets.
  5. Reassemble the pen carefully, ensuring all parts are tightened securely but not overtightened.

Caution:

Disassembly is an advanced maintenance step. If you are uncomfortable performing this, seek assistance from a qualified pen technician or contact Asvine customer support. Overtightening components can cause damage.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No ink flow or skipping
  • Dried ink in nib/feed
  • Ink reservoir empty
  • Blind cap fully tightened (restricting air flow)
  • Nib tines misaligned
  • Clean the pen thoroughly (see Maintenance).
  • Refill the pen with ink.
  • Slightly unscrew the blind cap a few turns.
  • Gently realign nib tines (if comfortable, otherwise seek professional help).
Vacuum filling system not drawing ink effectively
  • Piston seal dry or damaged
  • Air leak in the system
  • Nib not fully submerged
  • Lubricate the piston seal with silicone grease (if accessible) or replace seals (see Maintenance).
  • Ensure all sections are tightly screwed.
  • Ensure the nib and part of the section are fully submerged in ink during filling.
Ink leakage
  • Pen not assembled correctly
  • Damaged seals
  • Blind cap not tightened
  • Check all connections and ensure they are secure.
  • Inspect and replace seals if necessary.
  • Ensure the blind cap is fully tightened when not in use or during transport.
Difficulty seeing ink level
  • Barrel color/translucency
  • This is a characteristic of some acrylic patterns. Hold the pen against a light source to better gauge ink levels.
