The RICHMETERS RM113A requires three (3) AAA batteries (not included) for operation.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the multimeter.
  2. Use a screwdriver to remove the screw securing the battery cover.
  3. Carefully remove the cover.
  4. Insert three AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
  5. Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screw.

3.2 Connecting Test Leads

To prepare for measurements, connect the test leads as follows:

  • Insert the black test lead into the COM (Common) input terminal.
  • For most voltage, resistance, and current measurements (up to 200mA), insert the red test lead into the VΩmA input terminal.
  • For high current measurements (up to 10A), insert the red test lead into the 10A input terminal. Ensure the function knob is set to the appropriate current range.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Power On/Off

Rotate the central function knob from the "OFF" position to any desired measurement function to power on the multimeter. To power off, rotate the knob back to the "OFF" position.

4.2 Function Selection

The function knob allows you to select various measurement modes. Ensure the knob is securely clicked into the desired position.

4.3 Measuring DC Voltage (V–)

  1. Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal and the red test lead to the VΩmA terminal.
  2. Rotate the function knob to the desired DC Voltage range (e.g., 200V, 600V). If the voltage is unknown, start with the highest range and decrease as needed.
  3. Connect the test probes across the component or circuit to be measured.
  4. Read the voltage value on the LCD display.

4.4 Measuring AC Voltage (V∼)

  1. Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal and the red test lead to the VΩmA terminal.
  2. Rotate the function knob to the desired AC Voltage range (e.g., 200mV, 2V, 20V, 200V, 600V).
  3. Connect the test probes across the AC voltage source.
  4. Read the voltage value on the LCD display.

4.5 Measuring DC Current (A–)

Caution: Never connect the multimeter in parallel with a voltage source when measuring current, as this can damage the meter and the circuit. Always connect in series.

  1. Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal.
  2. For currents up to 200mA, connect the red test lead to the VΩmA terminal. For currents up to 10A, connect the red test lead to the 10A terminal.
  3. Rotate the function knob to the desired DC Current range (e.g., 2mA, 20mA, 200mA, 10A).
  4. Open the circuit where current is to be measured and connect the multimeter in series with the load.
  5. Read the current value on the LCD display.

4.6 Measuring Resistance (Ω)

Caution: Ensure the circuit is de-energized before measuring resistance. Do not measure resistance on live circuits.

  1. Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal and the red test lead to the VΩmA terminal.
  2. Rotate the function knob to the desired Resistance range (e.g., 200Ω, 2KΩ, 200KΩ, 2MΩ, 20MΩ).
  3. Connect the test probes across the component whose resistance is to be measured.
  4. Read the resistance value on the LCD display.

4.7 Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection

The NCV function allows for detection of AC voltage without direct contact with conductors.

  1. Rotate the function knob to the NCV position.
  2. Move the top of the multimeter (where the NCV sensor is located) close to the conductor or outlet.
  3. If AC voltage is detected, the meter will emit an audible beep and the NCV indicator light will illuminate.

4.8 HFE Test (Transistor Test)

This function is used to measure the DC current gain (hFE) of transistors.

  1. Rotate the function knob to the hFE position.
  2. Insert the transistor leads (Emitter, Base, Collector) into the corresponding holes in the HFE testing input terminal, ensuring correct type (NPN or PNP).
  3. Read the hFE value on the LCD display.

4.9 Diode Test

The diode test function checks the forward voltage drop of a diode.

  1. Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal and the red test lead to the VΩmA terminal.
  2. Rotate the function knob to the Diode symbol.
  3. Connect the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode.
  4. Read the forward voltage drop on the display. Reversing the probes should show an open circuit (OL).

4.10 Continuity Test

The continuity test checks for a complete circuit path.

  1. Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal and the red test lead to the VΩmA terminal.
  2. Rotate the function knob to the Continuity symbol.
  3. Connect the test probes across the circuit or component.
  4. If continuity exists (resistance is low), the meter will emit an audible beep.

4.11 Data Hold Function

Press the "HOLD" button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold function and resume live readings.

4.12 Backlight and Flashlight
